Welcome everyone to the gateway to the weekend. I hope you all had a great week and are now ready to transition into the weekend. Let's get started.

Friday: I have today off as it is finally time for Galesburg RR Days. I normally take Thursday off as well but this year I decided to just take the Friday off as I had just come back from vacation. My buddy Steve will be picking me and my N-Trak module up latter this morning. I was able to get the module "done" last night and now just need to clean the track and replace the hardwood fascia. We'll make the 3 hour trek up to Galesburg and meet up with the Heritage N-Trak group and set up our modules before going to dinner.

Saturday: Day one of Galesburg RR Days will include getting up and running trains. I have set a side my B&M, Rock Island and early BN freight trains as well as my CB&Q passenger set to run. I'll also walk the show and see what I can't live without. It will also give me a chance to talk to friends I have not seen since last year. After the show, the Heritage group usually goes out as a group for dinner where there is plenty of talk of trains both model and prototype.

Sunday: Day two of the show. At some point I will walk to the depot and see what BNSF and GE has on display as well as do some railfanning. Galesburg is such a fun place to railfan, I'm not sure why I don't go there more often. The show shuts down at 3:00pm so we'll shut down the mainlines and begin the process of take down and packing before heading back to Central Illinois. As always, I'm looking forward to a great time like we had last year.

So how about you? What do you have planned this weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 26th to see how our weekends went. Until then, have a great weekend, be safe and if you're at Galesburg, stop by and say hi. As always...

    High Greens!

Good morning to Y'all and TGIF!!

I have simple plans -- clean the rail on my layout and run some trains -- unless it gets to hot up in the train room.
Then I will have to drop back 10 yards and punt.

And -- start planning for a new layout. (Yeah, I'm contemplating tearing down my layout and starting over) - I have some ideas for a new version.
If it happens - it will be next year - after retirement

    Y'all have a great weekend,
    Wolf

So yesterday I received some of my stuff that was in storage while I was in Japan. It includes a bunch of HO stuff-mostly Tyco with a little Life-Like and Bachmann. About 15 cars, various types. All the locomotives (1x AHM GP18? High nose, 1x Tyco C630, and 1x unknown F-series, all in Santa Fe war bonnet) run, although the could use some serious maintenance.

So now I’ve got this idea in my head to make a very small HO shelf switching layout 10’x 4’ maybe with this cheap and old stuff underneath the n scale empire that I will build. The HO layout would be DC and at kid height, hopefully reducing the desire for younger kids to play/reach up to my n scale stuff above it. My kids are old enough and I’ve been training them to be careful but we have plenty of friends with kids 8 or younger and it might be a good idea to keep them occupied should the my come down to the rec room.

I could turn something reasonable out in a couple of months I think, so I may spend this weekend (when it gets too hot for yard work) putting together a track plan based on what I have on hand so I can do this on the cheap. I think I’ll freelance this whole thing, but I’ve got a ramp for a team track already, which would be great.

Good morning all. Friday's always a good thing. This weekend the plan is to set up tree armatures for painting and finishing. I recently scored a bunch of Scenic Express super tree armatures. Basically, will be starting this process.

Also want to start on one of the control panels. Will probably get the trees covered in the glue, hang them up, and while they dry work on the panel.

    Have a great weekend all!!

    Good Friday morning everyone !

Last weekend I was missing from this thread as I was at the N Scale convention in Reno, Nevada with the Peninsula Ntrak club. Came home with a couple of new projects. The biggest one being the club staging yard for overhaul. I have until our next show in December to finish that. Also brought home a Kato F7A to repair for a friend and that's what I am going to focus on this weekend.

Have a great weekend whatever you are doing.

Good morning from cloudy, warm and damp Northeast Ohio!

This weekend I hope to paint a couple of cars and then do some decaling on some other cars I painted during the week. I would also like to start on a couple of Proto 2000 GP7's that will end up as DT&I units.

Saturday, will be going to the club for some bull sessions and running trains.

    Happy Friday everyone!
Nothing big for the weekend. Going to try and finish up installing the current batch of metal wheels I have. There are errands to run with the wife and the ever present loads of laundry. Other than that, it's pretty much a see what happens type of plan.

@SP-Wolf, that is a big bit of news there. Considering a whole new layout is really interesting. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

    Moose has plans...

Friday: Review ALL the documentation related to an operations session that Moose is attending this Saturday.

Saturday: Attend a real live actual operations session and run someone else's trains. Yipe! This is a first for this moose!

Sunday: Review the NMRA Engineer - Civil & - Electrical certificate requirements and prepare a plan to earn them.

Hope everyone has a grand weekend full of running trains and other pleasant activities!
    :)

Unpacked from my trip. The house air conditioner went out while we were gone so spent yesterday getting a new system installed. Now I am ready for more 100°+ temperatures (38°+ C). Was no joy to come home from the Pacific North West and step into a furnace. Now I need to mow the lawn: or maybe it is bail some hay. May try to make N scale trees to add to my modules.

CB&Q passenger train! Cool! Retirement and new layout. Also cool. I do things on the cheap myself. (y) Super trees sound super! ;) Being at the Reno N-scale convention is a good reason to be missing. Oooh. GP-7's! I heard (read) laundry... @Moose2013, sounds like a plan. I hate A/C failures! o_O Well, here we are. The road to blazes... I desperately need to get stuff on top of the boilers. However, the little that got done was moving lights in preparation for moving the module to a lower shelf to allow building the next module(s). :cautious: I also purchased a one-foot length of all-thread to allow for extending the box-beam table height to that of the current shelf located on the "variable" desk. This weekend could prove productive. There is always hope. :p Have a wonderful weekend. :D

With the possibility of rain over the next ten days there will be little to no outside plans. I have some indoor stuff such as some paint touch up around the house. We have a few spots where the walls got nicked over time. There is always laundry to do. The aquarium also needs some cleaning. Maybe we will make a run to the warehouse store.

We will be helping my son and daughter with any last minute things before they go on their cruise to Spain, France, and Italy. It is their graduation from their Master programs present to themselves. My son got his masters last summer and my daughter in December. When they come back, they both will be starting new jobs. My daughter will still be doing counseling but at a place that will help her get her state license. My son will be moving from doing customs paperwork to a non-profit heading a mural arts program for our township. My son wrote the successful $100,000 grant application that funded the program.

I have many pieces of rolling stock I need to tune up. I would like to convert a couple more locos over to dcc. Maybe I will get the chance to run some trains.

Yay!!! My HOn30 freight car truck frames are here! IF, I say IF, I do not have to work Sunday, I hope to get them cleaned up, painted and begin installing on my log cars. Beyond that, no specific plans. Just some wild ideas. Ha ha ha.

Returned from the N Scale Convention with two new, to me, locomotives. That makes a backlog of at least nine locos acquired since I took down my test track.

I have secured Sharon’s support to take over the kitchen counter Sunday for a temporary loop. My objective is to retrieve the track from storage, assemble a track and test the locos.

    Stay safe,

You'll do fine. Many hosts add a helper/coach so you can avoid the big mistakes. That said some people just let you dig yourself a hole for the laugh.

No solid plans, but I am at the point where I pick and choose.

    I could;

Build the straight 5' double deck module off the existing corner. This would facilitate one end of staging on the upper level plus the rest of the lower active yard.

Build turnouts. I need 16 for the west end of the yard where the benchwork is in place.

Begin scenery, structure, and overall plan for the Fontana switching area.

Progress on CN 4801 so far:

    20230624_064244.jpg

Added part of the decals to the shell, painted the walkways and the side sills black. Cab is complete and waiting for glazing.

Test fitted the headlights and part of the wiring. Resistors and wires soldered to the LEDs, with heat shrink tubing for insulation. I obtained some diodes but they're too big for the holes, so I'll add them later, once I've done the final installation of the headlights after finishing the rest of the decals on the front and rear.

    Best hobby ever.
