Welcome back to Monday and the last Monday of April. Hard to believe that next Monday will be MAY! Especially since as, I type this we are under a freeze warning! Let's see how we did this past weekend. Friday: As predicted, I was off by 12:30 and with the nice weather, debated on riding the motorcycle to my not so local hobby shop as this would be the last nice day for at least two weeks. I drove however which turned out to be a good thing as the wind was stirring up a lot of dust. Unfortunately, the not so local hobby shop was closed however I had a nice ride on the back roads back to home. Latter it was dinner with the Mrs. watching the conclusion of Picard. Saturday: As foretold, the trip to Costco. We got up, I made coffee and wandered into the workshop enjoying said cup of coffee while watching my favorite YouTube model railroad channels and the wife got ready. While enjoying the coffee and videos I worked on the fiddley bits of the N scale layout. Once ready we went to Costco which actually worked as I needed new clothes for work. Once finished, we went home, however, retail turnabout is fair play, so I dragged the Mrs. to Hobby Lobby and Menards. Unfortunately, both stores were disappointing. I was on the hunt for Celuclay, however after looking for a while even with the assistance of an employee, it was determined that they no longer carried it. Rats. At Menards, the hunt for other items needed for layout work were just the same, so we went home empty handed with a day blown. Sunday: After Saturday's misadventure, I was determined to stay home and work on the N scale layout. With coffee brewed and podcasts fired up, I set off to work. By the end of the day, I had completed all my turnout installs, the siding was finished, feeders were installed on the first module, ties were installed in any gaps and all that is left is the installation of the three spurs, feeders for the other module and filling in ties. I finished about 5:30 to have dinner with the wife and relax until it was time to get ready for bed. All in all, a good weekend. So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know. Good morning everyone. Weekend was productive. Worked mostly on the loading platform and have it "loosely" set in place trying figure out what ground cover I want in the yard. I have it now set in Arizona Rock Mineral "Copper Range Granite" N scale. Not sure if that will stay or not. I'll play around with it this week. Next weekend I'm not touching this thing. Got to move to something else for a while. Have a great week all!!
Happy Monday! Got down to the train room Sunday for a little while. Started a couple of trains running and made tea. Then did a bit of organizing and cleaning of the work bench and now I ready to get back at tackling projects next weekend. Love the coffee mug Jim! Hope you all have a great week!
Managed to get a bit of reorganization done and a few lingering rolling stock and engines picked up off the layout and stowed away for safety while working on finishing the tear down. Received a few parts for upcoming projects including what is labeled as a "drill stand" but is destined to be a holder for an older Aoyue soldering iron being used for the brass heat set inserts for 3D prints. Also received a new set of tips for that iron that are made specifically for the brass inserts. Also listed a few Nextion displays over in the buy/sell forum, not sure if they will be picked up by anyone. If not, they will end up going into a box with other electronics bits to possibly be listed on eBay at some point this summer. And on a non train project, tried (unsuccessfully) to revive my Wii-U that got bricked by the forced firmware update. Not sure how I'll get it back to working yet but most likely I'll have to send it off to someone who has more experience with the console and it's recovery.
My weekend went, mostly, the way I expected. Friday: Sat with my mother for an hour or so in the hospital then returned home to work on my term paper. Saturday: Spring District Conference (at a church a half hour away), Eagle Scout Court of Honor (our church), helped my wife mulch the flowerbed with our raspberry patch, worked on term paper. Sunday: Church, then out to the Sebring MRR Club where I painted swatches of several potential colors we are considering for the "Ohio River Brown" color of our new harbor, then home for a nap, dinner, and then read more books and took notes for my research paper. Mom was supposed to return to her room at the nursing home yesterday, but I haven't heard confirmation that that happened. Today, I have regular office work, three hours of class online from 1:00 to 4:00, then a zoom meeting at 5:00 with the chaplains of the National Scout Jamboree in July, then a church meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 doing strategic planning (the first of three), then check in with our scout troop, and home. Probably won't get any studying done today. I'm just hoping I can squeeze dinner in somewhere. I hope you all have a great week.
As expected I did manage on Friday to paint a couple of cars and start construction of a 50’ double door boxcar kit. Saturday and Sunday were spent working at the Ohio State Bowling Tournament but we managed to join some friends to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary at a local restaurant. Late Sunday evening I managed to decal one side of a 5800 CF plastic pellets covered hopper. Rick Jesionowski
Hi guys, I had a full weekend of work. I did have a jump start on servicing facilities but have it assembled. Some weathering is next. Here on the GL&S Peoria Averyville Yard I have sand and fueling started. What a tedious kit this was. Not perfect but close enough for me.
I had a productive and a not so productive weekend. The productive part came around and outside the house. I put the roof cover on the gazebo in the backyard. Friday, I pulled out the furniture for the backyard gazebo and the front patio and got everything set up. I still need to get the swing frame out of the garage. We also need to bring the tables now from the attic that are currently holding potted plants that were brought indoors for the winter. Saturday, we planted the herb garden and finished planting the pansies that were left over from the initial round of planting. Also moved some wayward plants back to the spots they should be in. Sunday, we returned a few Amazon items, ran to Target and the grocery store. Then we had dinner at a burger joint. Unfortunately, I did not get to the fishpond. I did a couple loads of laundry before my daughter commandeered the washer and dryer. The unproductive part was the layout and workbench. On Friday and Saturday due to being exhausted from the outside work I never made it down to the basement. Sunday evening, however, I did make it down and wished I didn’t. I decided to test my new MTH Milwaukee Road Little Joe and was very disappointed in its performance. I made a post elsewhere describing the problems. After fiddling with it for nearly two hours I gave up and went back upstairs and entered a few pieces of rolling stock into my inventory program.

Gotta' love a B&M coffee mug. Hooray for the Model T! Loading platform is looking even better. Trains running and tea! Cool! Tear-down = big project. Term paper! Construction start! Me not do or rite perfeck either... I hate locomotive test failures! (Did I hear...laundry? ) The last thing I remember doing is working some more on the three tenders Saturday morning. At this time, the water legs need to be glued in place and the top decks installed. I plan to work on that today. Tomorrow is some chores. With rain coming, I should get more done. Have great week.
As expected, Saturday was spent traveling for my daughter’s first softball game. She got walked three times and stole 3rd base. They won, so overall it was great for her confidence. On Sunday I worked on the pedal box for my co-worker. It’s train-themed, so I’m counting it here. Painting occurrd last weekend so I was able to get decals on 3 sides of on Sunday. Getting the ditch lights and number boards lit didn't quite go to plan. No lights. Other than the headlights, front and rear, nothing else. But it's still running. I had made them light up individually - number boards, right and left ditch lights - and figured that it was a common anode circuit. I used the small accessory board as an interface between my wiring and those cursed little enameled wires leading to the lights. Next steps are in the idea mill, starting with re-testing the LEDs with my multimeter's diode test function. And pray.
Hey All, I made a little progress refining decal set prototypes for my "Wichita & Northwestern" freelance(?) alternate history of the WNW. I have been trying various sizes of lettering and heralds, and am pretty happy with these. Two-bay hopper is the Accurail 2292 - ACF 2-Bay Covered Hopper - 1980's with Consolidated Stencil, Data Only - HO Scale Kit. Three bay hopper is the Athearn Genesis 73603 - PS-2 2893 3 Bay Covered Hopper Chicago & Northwestern (CNW) 95387 - HO Scale. My goal is to work in this more modern era with a few Freemo modules, while my home layout is set in the early 1900s. Hope you had a good one, -Bob T.
As I had thought, long hours at work. I did stop by WallyWorld, and pick up several of the plastic crayon boxes. They are a perfect solution for storing my completed HOn30 critters. I was able to spend a few minutes puzzling out a custom tank car handrail. Made some measurements. A foggy idea was developed. Now to get my courage level built up, and give it a try....
Added some flowers, more bushes, and glued everything into place, swapped out an atlas switch for a tortoise switch, painted some of the turnouts in the yard, and added another train crossing light by the bridge. Epoxy for the lake and waterfall will be here tomorrow, so I'm going to paint the lake bed, add some rocks, and build a dock hopefully tonight to get ready for that step. I think I'm mostly done with the greenery (for now), other than putting all of the trees back into place after I get the water in. Here's a top view of the current state of the layout:
Two weekends ago I got to play trains for 5 days straight. This past weekend as payback I took my wife to Sonoma County for a weekend of wine tasting and gourmet foods which she enjoys as much as I do my hobby. We also visited with some friends we have in that area.
