Recieved the final car in the Atlas 94' tank car series today!

And the family portrait of all 4 cars
    [IMG]

These will eventually be convertd to Micro Train trucks/couplers. And run on occasion. But kept on display more than run.
And they will NOT be sold, like I did long ago, with 3 of the cars I once had!

Could have gotten a 5th car, Operation Lifesaver, in a 5 car set, for a measly $634.50!!

Nice collection Keith, good find !

With you being an astute collector I know you are aware that there was only one jumbo ever built and placed into service, for a very short time. That was the GATX 96500. Here is an image of the 1:1 :

    Here is my version :

While having fun I just could not resist to fix the only other one I have :

BTW, if you want to operate these cars I found they trailed a KATO SD-90 at full throttle all the way around club layout without any derails or problems, forward and backward. The red or orange on bottom of Wanda came to me that way.

Again, congrats on your find. Based on the prices I see these being listed for, you have a pretty good treasure chest.

    Carl;
Technically, the largest car, in interchange service was the UTLX 83699.

    • Union Tank Car Co., March 1963
    • 176,700 pounds Light Weight
    • 263,000 pounds Load Limit
    • 440,000 pounds Gross Weight
    • 50,105 gallons
    • AAR Class : ?
    • Specification No. : ICC 114-A-340-W
    • Plate C
    • Built as a test car and demonstrator
    • Designed for LPG and Anhydrous Amonia service
    • Listed in Official Railway Equipment Register : JUL 1963-OCT 1983 UTLX 83699 was the very first U.S. RailWhale, and for over two years it was the only U.S. RailWhale. During that time, it was also the largest tank car in North America. When GATX 96500 was completed in September 1965, it became the largest tank car by a margin of 10,000 gallons; but that car was never used in revenue service, so UTLX 83699 holds the record as the largest tank car ever interchanged in revenue service.
UTLX 83600 was donated to the the Galveston Island Railroad Museum in 1983, 12 years after GATX 96500 had gone to the National Museum of Transport in St. Louis. During Hurricane Ike in 2008 UTLX 83699 floated up off its trucks and onto the adjacent parking lot. It was subsequently scrapped after the museum decided that it would be too expensive to relocate the car.

Looks like a medallion from the Westside Model Company, packaged with their C-16 brass locomotives.

Those are SO cool. Considering the rarity of these cars, you should keep the Rapido couplers and springs in the jewel boxes to that they can be restored to original factory condition should someone want to do that someday.

Just received M/T CN flat car with house boat. Odd, but VERY cool !!! It's a model of real boat owned by a Canadian musician that actually moves his boat like this !!!

Keith, I hope to one of the "cool kids" soon and get the GATX car. Came VERY close 2 months ago, but '99 Chevrolet Suburban rear axle "suddenly" took precedence !!!

New motor for THERR RV AC unit. Going to get hot soon so needs to be done. My nephew owns his on HVAC company and is doing the work at no charge ! I just had to pay for the motor. I told him I would gladly pay for the labor too. He said absolutely NOT. He says I basically raised him when he was younger and that I set him on the right course which shows in his success today.:cry:

I told myself I would exercise some restraint at the Columbia train show. That was a lie.

    IMG_3582.jpg

A GP20 (and decoder, not shown), Bachmann NW2, BLI SW7, and an assortment of bargain-bin rolling stock that will polish up nicely. None of the locos are in SP colors, but will be remedied!
