I bought Christmas gifts for a friend, but I cannot say here as he may see it. His Wife and I are teaming up.
Well my WS Mast Arm Traffic Lights showed up today. Man these things are tiny. Can't wait to try them later tonight. Appears a few people here have bought these lately! Crazy iPhone, trying to get them to look right. It's weird!
Had an Athearn 2-6-0, a Spectrum 4-8-2 and a Kato arrive today in the mail and picked a a Chessie caboose GN boxcar and an UP ore car and some Unitrack at the hobby shop today. Unfortunately, a Model Power 2-6-0 I have at the shop for work seems to have a fried engine. Hopefully he can get the lil beastie running again.
Sorry to read about your Model Power mogul. The early versions of MP models had some issues which were later improved upon by MRC. The MP/MRC models are pretty good and DCC ready. In fact some of the MP/MRC have DCC/sound installed.
Came back from a trip to find some Athearn 33k tank cars and some JTC flat racks. I think I’ll run some of them with loads and the rest empty, flat, and stacked. For loads I’m debating between making some of my own out of some leftover parts and styrene or buying some of the tarped loads from Hay Bros. Just not sure if those tarped loads would be too wide. Anyone else have these flat racks and have any suggestions for interesting loads? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Have not been in layout mode for a couple of months straight thanks to some IRL issues that required the stress and money usually reserved for model railroad and now we're knee deep in the holiday season where I feel bad thinking about spending money on myself, but this morning I managed to sneak a few building materials onto my Amazon order whilst Christmas shopping. It's amazing what $22 worth of colored acrylic dowels will do for your constitution on a rainy Monday morning
Not familiar with the JTC flats. As an aficionado of tank cars I really liked the Athearn 33K tank cars. I believe they had an early and late versions. I got the early versions which were around in the early 1960's. Much better than the Atlas 33k propane tank cars of the same era.
Ditto on the 'out of layout mode'... though mine is health related. I have plenty of things to do but no energy to do much. So what is the purpose of the colored acrylic dowels????
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J4BZ1QY?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Going to cut them at different lengths and light from below to make a fountain for a shopping plaza - probably use resin for the water in the foundation and brush layers of tacky glue onto the rods to simulate the flow action. Is a "someday" project but one that has been in my head for a while.
And if you are really good and careful, hold them at the right height from a heat source and you can bend them.
The LHS was out of the styrene I need to finish off my H-12-44, so I consoled myself with yet another oddball boxcar. This one is an MDC Roundhouse car that came with truck-mounted Rapido couplers AND a photo-etched metal roofwalk. I'd always thought the change to metal roofwalks only came after Athearn bought MDC and started selling the cars under their brand. Naturally, the original MDC trucks never even made it to the kitchen test track. The original air was barely out of the box before I had a spare set of MT trucks on it!
While working on my GS-1 and decals drying, etc., etc., I will also be working on my latest purchase. Nice prints from Royale Models, John does nice work : I mentioned in another post that I like red/yellow paint schemes, SO this will be finished as this : Neither the trailer and tractor are exact replicas but will be excellent fill ins. I have already made many different decals to make a version that is accurate for today. I'll do a build thread, if wanted, to follow along with progress shots. Be well, Carl PS: I sure wish we had a "vehicles" category for build thread and all vehicle related threads to be placed in.
