Our '47 Willys Jeep had the gas tank under the driver's seat and the cap just outside the sheet metal next to the step.
Kind of like the RS-1 and RS-2, which had 800 gallon tanks under the cab floor and the cap on the side of the cab (with the ubiquitous black stain under it). Nice vehicle.
You're thinking of the '55 and '56. On the '57, it was behind the chrome strip on the back of the fin. Otherwise, the gas would almost have had to flow uphill. They were copying Cadillac with the taillight trick.
Those were the days. I sill could not afford to keep gas in my car so I sold it to get something more economical to commute to college in.
This has the same exterior decor as when I first starting pumping gas at the local station/garage. Wow. Memories!!! That old car brings back even more. We had a 1951 Ford Custom Sedan. It was a four door in their so-called "Birch Gray" paint.
Looks like I can see a turn signal lens on the front. So must have been a 1968. What options did you have?
It was a 69 with four speed clutch eater. I had it less than a year. More car than I needed. But sure was fun while I had it. Insurance was killing me.
True. It has been over forty years since I sold mine, so many memories are VERY faded. I only have a couple of lousy views, which my ex failed to destroy. 350hp 400. Vinyl roof, factory (rare) dash tach. I painted a bumblebee stripe, and as the paint cracked on the nose, painted it black. Did not look that bad. Had a Zoom clutch, which really would hit home. But broke bellhousing, tranny case and even the clutch pedal. (Replaced the tranny case with the heaver Muncie version.) The whole firewall would flex. Ladder bars. The entire top end of the motor from cam to carb and ignition was well modified.
