I had to do some drilling and screwing in some screws on the table top for the magnets underneath the motel. It just wreaks havoc to my automobiles and even some of the Z scale rolling stock bouncing all around. Have to reset everything back into place!
You might want to contact Walt since he designed these for Shapeways. He probably knows what manufacturer made these that he designed after. With that information you can find out what the manufacturer used for color.
I’ve always been a John deer green fan with yellow for wheel hubs. The detail is seriously sweet on those!
On this, Version 3 of the Motel 6 model, I made the model 73 thousandths wider to accommodate the cheaper $2 MH Tiny microcontroller, which has 24 usable outputs. I also used the full 6K of program space to put some light effects in. 2 of the rooms are red light rooms that have both a red and a white light. I made furniture for 8 rooms, and put them with figures in the rooms with the opened curtains, and the the lobby. The furniture includes a sofa, a bed, both made and with the bedspread down, and a dresser with TV on it. I made a check in desk, and soda machine in the lobby too. Some rooms have nothing in them as those rooms have the curtains drawn: Another change was to make the model serviceable, so I can remove the roof to replace any burnt out components, and with an access hole to the USB port so I can update the programming as desired: I put service loops of wire on the lamps that are attached to the exterior of the motel, and everything else is wired to the drop in rooms module, including the microcontroller and the buck converter. The bridge rectifier is mounted in the main structure, so the power wires (splices are taped) need to be unsoldered to remove the rooms module for servicing:
Well, I decided that i need a swimming pool to go with my Motel 6, so off on another tangent... I wanted it to have a deep end and a shallow end: I'm putting a light in it, and shrubs around the concrete patio, and a fence around it, etc.
You are correct that the swimming pool is pretty large for the motel. I think it should be about 1/3 the size you have now!
Nice motel model; the pool would likely be rectangular and about big enough to fit a family of 4 and not much more...
So I did some searching and found that many 1950-1960's motels and motor lodges with 24 rooms or less had 30' x 10' kidney shaped pools. Starting in the 1970's motels were larger with 50 to 100 rooms and had rectangular 20' x 40' pools. So my first pool measured 55 feet long by 25 feet wide. I shrunk mine and now it's 28' x 13' kidney shape. I'm going for an older motel.
So I've been busy with taking care of my dad, getting the house ready for fall, working late, splitting wood, etc. I've not been finding much time for the H4, but I am making a loco cradle. I figure once I get more time to work on locos I'll need it. So I was at work looking at some foam pieces that come with our SLA resin orders, and I thought they might make a good loco cradle. I sketched up the idea on a Post-it note, and seeing it was going to work out, I created a quick layout. I am going to glue together sections side by side to create the cradle. First I cut the foam piece in two, then I cut the lower leg of the L section to half an inch long. Next I am going to cut 45 degree V into the top front of the rectangular piece, and the cut a small rectangular cut for a tray. Scott
I find that layout works well. The channel up front for the locomotive, and the v groove for holding shells and parts. If I was modifying mine I would add a quarter sized round cutout for tiny screws and tiny parts.
Rob, Thanks. I looked at both Noch and Modellbahnen cradles to give me some ideas for the layout. Scott
