I was running a little ahead of schedule Tuesday of this week (9/6/22) so I made a detour by the CN yard in Jackson MS. Turned out to be well worth it. Hope you all have a great weekend!
From about 1976, a Chicago bound "scoot" approaches the C&NW's crossing of the EJ&E at Barrington, IL. Barrington Tower is at right in the distance, closed 2003 and demolished 2006. The 421 was originally 4075A and is a 1949 graduate of EMD.
On the platform at Kansas City Union Station on July 5, 2014, watching all the trains coming and going.
22 May 2004, South Draw on the Moffat Route. Dancing between jagged cuts and cliffs of raw granite, this is the signature of the Moffat Tunnel Route--tunnels, curves and rugged rock. Westbound coal empties roar at track speed (all of 25 MPH) through South Draw, winding through the serpentine curves, dragging a silver thread of aluminum hoppers through Tunnels 12-16, and is about to enter Tunnel 17.
Union Pacific #7387 after completing the descent down Cajon Pass coasts around the bend into San Bernardino in 2011.
Different day, different time, different angle: the other side of the RR Museum of PA's wreck crane. On a gondola trailing the boom car is this remnant of its heritage.
@BuddyBurton When I was with the storm chase team in 2006, we caught the UP OS outside Yankton SD, however at that time it had their restored F (I think) units on the head end -- ABBA set -- looked really great - -unfortunately Ive lost the digital files over the years
I don't recall UP having any F units in a long time. Probably was their ABA set of E9s that they have been using for well over 30 years. These have been rebuilt to GP38s on the inside.
This one has been sitting on the west end for years, and now the green is fading off the old BN number, 394.
Really like this shot with lots of surrounding scenery. Got a few shots of the Keddie Wye this past weekend, including this one. He took several rail measurements before leaving.
I just remembered, he sat in the truck for several minutes before getting out. At first I thought he might be observing a traffic sign...
