This afternoon's 18D arriving at Columbia, SC with bird exiting stage right. :) I love the old distant signal here. Devine Jct. is ahead, around the curve.

That's a great shot and angle. (y)(y)(y) The sharp curve there sort of gives the shot the feel that it's on a layout. :)

Stopped my the Meridian & Bigbee last week (08-22-2022) and among the power there, I was surprised to find a former Bay Line unit still in original paint tucked away on the service track.

When I was living in the vicinity of Shreveport, I heard Nawlins and Norlins many a time. Long time ago, and far, far away.....

PS&P has actually been around about 25 years now. Hard to believe. Somehow, when I have been in the Grays Harbor vicinity, I never seem to catch them. Maybe they hide from me?

This afternoon's NS 15R at Ridgeway, SC with Uncle Pete in charge. I lost my sunlight just before train time. This is a difficult location to shoot because this train usually runs later in the day and the sun is then positioned in a horrible spot. 15R ran early today, so all was right ..... except for the rain clouds moving in. :(

I like the location and will have to try this one again.

Did G&W take over the A&SAB? Or is that short line gone?

A&SAB ceased operations in 1994, sold to Rail Management Corp. which created the Bay Line Railroad, which is part of the G&W group since 2005.

    Enough to make one dizzy...

It is that. If one company cannot make it go, I always marvel at the successor making it work. At least it is not a hiking trail...

That's been going on since the beginning of railroading, too.

Asheville, NC in happier times on 04/15/1995 when the roundhouse stood and trains could be found.

And loads of standard cabs! :)

Cool looking ribbed boxcar too, behind the three foreground engines.

    Happier times...

Nice to see the older U-boats. Sounds like another site decimated by PSR?

Asheville's rail traffic took a severe hit when they decided to run all of the Knoxville, TN <=> Linwood, NC traffic via the N&W instead of the much shorter SOU route via Asheville. I guess the arithmetic makes sense to someone. The loss of utility coal tonnage has also hit the line hard. All in all, pretty sad. I used to enjoy a drive to Asheville to see what was moving, but no more.

Another pass by the M&B shops on 8/29/22 found the same power but at least it had been shuffled around a little
