Here we are in August and ready for the first Weekend Proto Fun of the month. Kicking off this weeks edition Baldwin style. C&G 601 stuffed and mounted outside the shops in Columbus MS. She was built in 1946 and was in active service on the C&G until 1984. She pulled both freight and passenger trains during her time polishing the rails.
My gosh, how can it be Friday already?! From 10/23/1996, a piggyback train at Dalies, NM has just climbed the 10 Mile, 1.25% grade west from Belen.
Color? Sorry, not from me today. Some dreary shots in Hearne from the end days of SP. The UP had already gobbled up the Missouri Pacific. Here is a UP container train on the old MoP Palestine Sub. From the Highway 6 overpass at the south end of Hearne Yard.
A new friend and I met in Minot for some railfan touring, and right before dinner, we caught this CP train 243, bound for Edmonton from St. Paul. The Soo Line 1905 freight house stands prominently at right. I laid on the ground to get this different, low angle.
That's a great view, especially with the wispy big sky above. The freight depot has a nice architecture - it was designed with just the right details to make a simple brick building look good. (the city seems to have used one of those Just-Plug street lights )
Here is a little color! This picture of Union Pacific E8 #942 was taken shortly after its restoration and new paint in 2012.
