Wow!! Excellent work. Great details. This looks like my kind of town. The cemetery looks like it naturally belongs there. Very convincing use of the space. I'll take a half pound of prosciutto sliced very, very thin...Jim

Ha Jim! You noticed the sign on the front. Its one of the many real life store fronts that I use after finding them by searching on the web for "NYC disappearing storefronts"

    John,
Great job building your own! The building looks great and the it's family ties are interesting.
Thanks for the link to JH!

I’m a sucker for Greyhound bus stations, and really wanted one on my layout. Now the majority of the buildings on my layout are modeled after actual buildings in NYC, however there was not a Greyhound bus station that would be suitable for my layout's limited space, and there certainly is not a bus station in Z scale, so I had to improvise. I took the Miller Engineering Micro Structures Mid State Bank as the basis for my bus station. I reduced the width of the building eliminating the left most single door and 2nd story window. I scratch built a covered bus bay, and created my own decals for the Greyhound signs. I like the way it turned out as it fits perfectly size wise on my layout and it's definitely unique.

    Enjoy,

    John

Very clever! I really like those buses too. Ok where are you gonna set it on the layout?

I’ve admired the amount of action you’ve packed in the layout while making it look right.

EXCELLENT! Love the building color you chose, the weathering, the contrast, and of course the bus! This building creates its own scene and plenty of character. I like it!

Well done, John. I hope they get the A/C fixed before it gets too hot.

I remember my Mom, when I was a kid and we lived in Queens, shopping at the A&P on Metropolitan Ave, but I can’t find a reference photo of that store, so I modeled my A&P after a photo I found of the A&P on Fresh Pond Road, in Ridgewood (Queens) NY circa 1960s. The building was designed for me by Charlie T. at Z & US Models https://zandusmodels.wordpress.com and the decals were designed for me by Dan Pikulski.

    Enjoy,

    John

The sidewalk bulkhead doors look great. They add a vibrant city scene. The whole build is fantastic. We all had an A & P growing up in the 50-60's. You've captured the feel and look. It's going to look great on your layout. Jim

Superb work. Those shopping carts are just unreal. Where did you get them? Photo-etched?

Thanks guys. Shopping carts are from Rudolf Pabst http://www.rolfs-laedchen.de in Germany, he makes some fantastic stuff, the best part about Rolfs shopping carts is that they come built, they are photo-etched, I would hate to try to assemble them cause they are so small and so delicate. Rolf used to be easy to email and order from but since 2020 he doesn't seem to answer emails, my German Z contacts say he's still producing Z items and that the best way to get a hold of him is by telephone. I haven't tried calling him yet, his phone number is on his website. I got those shopping carts years ago abiding by Rob Ray's mantra of "If you see it, get it, for tomorrow it will be gone!".

Yes! And yes! We had one too growing up and you didn’t even need to send the prototype picture. Captured the look perfect. Now you’re gonna have to do updated photo shoot of your fantastic layout! :)

Another great building, John. Like what you did to the roof, very nice weathering of ducts etc.
    Two questions:
    - charlie's website doesn't show prices, can you give us an indication?
    - I'd love to see pictures of the fire station, bus station and A&P on the layout, have you given them a place already?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Matt,

Email Charlie and he'll send you the prices, he's great to work with and very reasonably priced. Still working on where I'll place them all after I finish a few more buildings.

Added some small but urban appropriate details to Mr Robinson's building on my layout.

    Enjoy,
