So I bought a Kato GG1 a couple of years ago because, well, because it is a GG1 and it is a Kato. I figured I could always add DCC to it as all I had to do was replace the light board. Simple, right? Wrong! Replacing the light board with the decoder was simple but in the process, both trucks fell out. So how does one replace the trucks in the frame so that the drive shafts from the weights connmect to the gear towers? Do I first connect the drive shafts to the gear towers and then to the weights or weights first then to the gear towers? Do I have to do a complete disassembly of the mechanism? Thanks in advance for all responses.

Had to convert 1 of mine. Don't recall what I had to do, with trucks. Think I reinstalled all trucks, with unit upside down. Think started with driveshaft in trucks, then cussed as I attempted to reassemble them!!

I converted 3 of them and I do not recall the trucks needing to be removed or fall out.

If you don't regularly cuss at entering N scale model railroading, you will become adept at it in no time.

My experience was the same as Sharkman's. Just remove existing light board and insert decoder. I may have to add some Kapton tape here and there.

Trucks did not fall out or gave any trouble.

And Doug, we never had this trouble with our Arnold GG-1s ...... :) (We'll ignore that fact that the Kato's run ten times better.)
