Good morning from sunny and hot Northeast Ohio! I got a little work done this week. First up is a Bowser 1958CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray paint and lettered with an old Champ Decal set. I finally managed to find this decal set as it had been discontinued in the 60's for no apparent reason and seeing it was in red lettering and I have never seen a picture of a red lettered car I asked Jim Hediger if the decal set was legit. Here is his answer, in the late 50's the DT&I was going to change the lettering from black to red on the Covered Hoppers, so the paint shop started the conversion with the new Epoxy paint for the lettering, but they used the thinner from the old paint instead of Epoxy thinner and most of the lettering washed off the cars in about 6 months, so they went back to the black. (I had to have one in red paint for my fleet of cars.) Next a Branchline 50' DD Boxcar kit, with A-Line sill steps in place of the kit's plastic ones. Painted with Scalecoat II Black paint and lettered with Great Decals decals. The NF&D was purchased from the Southern by the N&W and in the mid 60's moved excess NKP 50' Double Door boxcars to it's roster. They were originally painted boxcar red and in the mid 70's some were repainted black like the one I did. Since it is July 4th weekend, I will submit my favorite Bi-Centennial Unit from 1976. And it is the only unit painted new by one of the loco builders as the rest were all painted by the railroad shops. Athearn EMD GP38-2 with an auto parts train. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Nice scene, love the vintage vehicles and wagon, what kind of wagon is it, behind the tree You make them or buy them? Really nice either way.
Lots of good stuff this week. JimJ's old time scene is great. I think most of the vehicles are old Jordan kits, although the stake truck might be from either Woodland Scenics or SS Ltd. Also really like Rick's red lettered DT&! covered hopper. Too bad the shop crew used the wrong thinner on those. BTW, Mike, hope you had a happy Canada day, eh? Looks like you had some fun with the Seaboard boxcar. Looks good. Lastly, Wolf's bicentennial units are excellent. Although 4449 in the AFT livery is hard to beat, it did inspire me to post a photo of the only bicentennial unit I own- Flying not just my American flag but also my Michiagan flag here: I was hanging out in Durand a lot back then. (There was this girl, but that's another story) I used to see this engine there quite regularly.
As mentioned in the "It's a Special Fourth of July Long Weekend" thread, I was trying to get the Kato ES44DC's and the Kato Gunderson MAXI-IV well cars, to run on the outside 11" radius and inside 9 3/4" radius without "kissing" each other , or touching each other if you prefer. And I will be darn, after hours of adjusting, and still need to, I got them working so that both can go around at the same time. It's close in some spot's but they do make it around and I am really happy I got them working. Might mot be prototypical, but I don't care Like I said more adjustments needed, but for now I am just gonna play with trains Cue the song " I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it..." Happy 4th of July!!!
Great modeling everyone this weekend again. Always encouraging to see images of your efforts. As some of you know I have been modeling a extended drop deck flat the KRL 38181. The prototype image from RRPictureArchives.net My efforts after building painting and decaling. Now after weathering. There was a challenge to weathering this car as all sides, trucks the wheels all needed to be weathered all around as the span bolster made the trucks so visible, it took me 2 days to get this much done. Below are a few different views. Getting that brake pipe hose the wrap around underneath was a challenge on its own. I didn't put those FRA yellow reflective stripes on it as that dates it a bit to narrow for me. Now to load it and get it into service, I don't know, I might make the load removable to run it MT, it fairly heavy with all the voids filled with lead shot. Yessir Ken, That's exactly what it says. In some of the latest images I have seen what looks to be big iron square plate in that area that can be welded to. But was was a little late for me as a modeling era.
