    Happy Holiday Weekend

May we never forget what Memorial Day is all about. Thanks to all who have served and who are currently serving.

My N scale salute is one that I use for other Holidays as well but they are the good ole red, white, and blue. The small one is an Atlas production and I painted the other two. Enjoy!

Interesting pics. @r_i_straw, seems like the cool hotel model needs a sign? Looks so good a sign might not. I can't decide.

Good morning from cloudy, mild and rainy Northeast Ohio!

Finished a couple of cars, probably the last for a few weeks as I recover from next week's open heart surgery.

First is a Branchline Models 50' Boxcar Kit painted with Scalecoat II ##2 Boxcar Red Paint and lettered with Microscale decals. Wabash car in general service.

Next is an Athearn gondola kit, not a real prototype but I had the kit and a decal for the UP so I did it as a filler car. Removed the cast on grabs and replaced with wire Tichy grabs. Painted with Scalecoat II #2 Boxcar Red and lettered with Herald King Decals.

Last Saturday, we had a club operating session and I took a picture of my train after I had completed my switching moves and was ready to head back to the yard. Train was powered with a pair of Bowser PRR RS-3's.

Thanks for looking, see you in a few weeks!

In the era that I model, the signage had changed a bit. You know, must be more modern and all.;)

    Rick J,

As all have said, I wish nothing but the best for your surgery and your surgeons work. I speak form experience as I had a 3x bypass in 1992 @52 years of age, gosh 30 years ago and I am still kicking. If they give you a small pillow to take home, always have it near.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

    Regards,
    Carl

At first, I wondered why you didn't model the gingerbread that shows in the photo, but realized that it was probably removed prior to your modeled era. Nice crisp modeling.

    Great Modeling everyone!
I have been working on this little project for a few months off and on, funny how I can have so many projects incomplete going at one time. Ever since a saw the KRL extended drop deck flat, I knew I wanted one.
    The prototype;
    KRL 38181 3.JPG
Had this older (plastic) Walthers 8 axle drop-deck flat, I stretched the load deck to 38' to match the prototype, turns out the other dimensions match too, 68' over the end sills, and 92' over the strikers. I filled the deck voids with lead shot and glued them in with CA. The biggest challenges was trying to get some the piping in to match the plumbing on the ends. Used some IM trucks w 36" wheels that lowered the car a bunch, looks way better.

    After some mods.

I got some decals on it, man those are the smallest numbers I have ever made, there is a bunch of decals on the ends too.

Got the transformer done. It is an older Kibri transformer I think. It had damage to the ends and bottom, I secured to my mill, and removed the ragged edges and rebuilt the ends and bottom.
Painted light gray, and used a few decals from many different Microscale sheets to give it a more complete look. Pretty much fills up the load deck.

Still need to weather the car, load the transformer and tie it down.
    Thanks for taking a look.
And lets take some time and remember the reason for this holiday. I would like to thank my fellow vets for their service and remember the ones that are no longer with us.
