I’m looking at making a GP40-2 from Shapeways. Has anyone done one from a AZL GP38-2 to a GP40-2? Any information would be helpful what I should know! Who carries the handrails for the shapeways model body? Also looking to make mine a Western Pacific with the “Perlman Green”. I did an article back in June 1997 for an HO scale of a GP-35. I used Accupaints Hunter Green, and NH Warm Orange. Are these still available on the Market? Also I’ll be looking for Z scale decals for the WP-40-2. I know that CMR puts out a lot of decals, but nothing for western roads. Any leads will help! Thanks!

    MMR,
I can get a hold of etched brass handrails for the RLW GP38.

I think the handrails for GP38-2 and GP40-2 might just be the same because all the critical measurements are the same, it might just be a newer motor and updated roofline as the only spotting difference:

We could sure use these in Z-scale! I'd love to have a Milwaukee Road version, for sure!

There should be a lot of MicronArt GP 38 handrails easy to find.

    Frank,
Really nice work on that loco! Nice railing work as well. Was the lettering done with stencil?

    Hi Scot,
Lettering was done with negative decals. A black rectangle with transparent letters and numbers. Printed on transparent decal paper with a simple laser printer which has only black toner. Shell first spayed aspen yellow, masked where decals had to come. Rest was sprayed an next layer of black. Remaining yellow rectangles were covered by decals.

    MMR283,
Did you get railings yet? I have a spare Micron Arts railing kit.

Haven’t received any railings yet. I thought that using the AZL railings from a GP38-2 would work, but they won’t work at all. Kind of put the engine on the back burner. How much do you want for the Micron Arts railing kit? Thanks Scott.
