@Jim Wiggin, Congratulations on the major Athearn accomplishment. (and happy B'day to the young lady at 90 yrs.) The FreemoN thing looks verrry interesting! (y) The gorge looks gorgeous. (Did I actually just say that? ) More busy folks here. Just run trains. I feel you. :( Me. I am on here late due to going fishing with a new rod and reel. :D I did not catch anything but chilly breezes. However, I shall return! ;) Maybe next week? Maybe Monday? :sneaky: I have gotten the hopper end sheets installed and will do center sheets next. I plant to visit the nearby model RR club tomorrow. All be well and safe.

This weekend I am continuing on the repairing, gluing, painting structures that have been bumped into, knocked over, items I forgot to add before building, dang tiny shutters, didn't want to paint, or forgot it needed painting, etc... BTW, I have a Model Power Grandma's house I bought at the local hobby shop years ago, and it was opened so got it for a great price, but a chimney was missing. Got it so cheap no big deal. So when throwing away some old shoe boxes during my Spring cleaning spurt for the train stuff, the shoe box had one of those wooden sticks to keep the shoe straight, they are usually plastic, and I'll be darn, cut down at an angle and I now have the Missing chimney for Grandma's house. It's a bit bigger then the original one, but I can't tell. Man the stuff we come up with. And now you know why we usually don't throw anything away :)

I haven't glued it yet. My story is the fireplace for that room, just needed a bit bigger chimney. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it :) It's the one on the Right side in the picture.

My plans this weekend are to work on our mountain bikes and get them ready for summer. We rode around the neighborhood this week on a warm day and walked a half mile because one valve stem wasn't holding air. Also on the list is to finish getting our tax information together and drop it off with our tax guy, play with my test track, a known (good) DCC engine, and learn a little more about JMRI, and start getting our (Sebring) club's bookeeping caught up as I take over as treasurer.[IMG]

Glad the weekend is here again! Plan to finish installing some metal wheel sets that I started on last weekend. Once those are done, the cars will go on the layout to run for a bit just to make sure there are no issues with my instillation work :) Also unexpectedly found some empty jewel cases during my travels this week. They are in rough shape but with a good cleaning and maybe a dab of glue in a couple of cracks, they should all be useable.
Non train wise, laundry, getting the info together for our tax person, and since the weather is supposed to be nice, I'll probably fire up the grill Saturday afternoon.

Here's hoping you all have a great weekend!

I've been putting off yardwork for weeks now, so the railroad may have to take a rest. It's high season for pollen here, so I'll wear a mask for survival. Happily, our dogwood trees are in bloom and look beautiful.

After two days of looking for a short in the newly-installed north end of the classification yard, I found shorts in three places. I salvaged three older “DCC unfriendly” Shinohara turnouts and tried to reuse them instead of making more Fast Tracks turnouts.

That was a mistake. All three were shorting across their power routing points. The ties were breaking off, the rail profile didn’t match the ME and PECo profiles, so I was just done with them. I removed all three and tossed them this morning.

My goal for the remainder of the weekend is the replace the other two and have a successful test of that end of the yard.

Nothing this weekend-I’m traveling around Osaka and Kyoto with the family. I caught a couple of photos of locomotives and rolling stock I’ll post in the “random prototype photos” thread
