painted a up Milw SW12 dummy Athearn switcher. #624 yes I know it is wrong number but inline on detail sheet so the number would be straight. Also recycled a TYCO 2-8-0.
Bought this Tyco engine at a Houston train show. Seller had a bunch of non working engines at $2 each. He let me bring this one to a table in the front where you could test if the engines powered up. I had it tested and the light came on but would not move so I bought it. Brought it home, cleaned it up and oiled it and it was a runner,
Kind of gives me thoughts of bringing a power source with me. A nice simple one was displayed on here recently. I have all it takes plus a 12V battery pack.
An older Atlas ALCO C424 with the Kato drive that I painted for my KY&N. This was number 464 until the locomotive roster was reorganized and it became 3306. Displayed on a wood trestle that was part of a Division challenge over the winter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A 9V battery's terminals can touch both sides of an HO axle as is - I just checked it out. Of course, there has to be pickup on both sides. Next train show, I'm pocketing a 9V battery!
I have a rechargeable 12V battery pack to take along. Along with the rheostat and contact strips. The battery pack is a stack of rechargeable AAAs and a little piece of N/HO track would work as well. In a purse with other usables. The big thing missing is the Swap Meets.
Don't know where I picked this locomotive up but it did not run that well. Just used it on a staging siding more or less for looks. I have the caboose that goes with it somewhere. I normally stay away from these Tyco engines as I don't really like the way the run and for me, they are hard to work on.
When I retired from work, I was teaching the new guy to do my job and I found out he was a model railroad guy. I came back from lunch one day and he said a package came for me and I told him I did not order anything. I opened it up and is was a Kato EMD SD9043 locomotive he ordered for me. I was blown away.
I think I picked this up at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. It barely runs. I think will use it for parts or just put it on a siding. I think I also have the caboose for it.
