BTW - I agree it is not the best SP could have come up with but then I am not a real fan of bloody nose either.

    This lives in my world:

Not enough commuter rail representatives here…the prototypes were before my time (in real life and on my layout) so I can’t give you photos of the real thing without ripping them off someone’s website. But a string of 4 of these bad boys and an F40 will grace my oval from time to time when I’m finished with them.

I like to think of it as the Chicago RTA skid mark scheme…

Yikes, it looks like so many Bachmann paint jobs right out of the box. Desperately needs some weathering to tone down the glare.

    Doug,
Personally I liked the CHESSIE SYSTEM'S Paint scheme , it was a welcomed sight instead of the N. & W. Black ,PC SOMBER Black and CR 's Blue.

I just realized we aren't necessarily talking about real paint schemes here, but only and all schemes that appeared on N scale stuff.

So we have to include this graffiti-like advertising of illegal activity in big, arrest-me-red letters on the side of a 1940s-produced locomotive that's somehow taking us back to the 1920s.

This scheme always made me think that a nearby paint factory had exploded.....

The paint scheme that hurts my eyes is:
    Illinois Terminal SD38.jpg

And then to make it worse, NS had to do a Heritage Unit in this paint scheme.

WOW, were are my sun glasses :ROFLMAO:

It's the lime green, because in my opinion the darker green in the MKT paint scheme is not that bad.

Another railroad that had several odd paint schemes was the Seaboard Air Line.

Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;)

Just some personal observations, I've always been a fan of the Espee Bloody nose scheme, but never cared for the Black Widow scheme.
Sadly the Bloody nose scheme didn't age very well and the Southern Pacific's pockets were not very deep.
The Rio Grande Black and Orange Tiger Stripes was another attractive paint scheme, especially with the Rio Grande speed lettering.
It's just a shame both schemes have now been covered by the ugly yellow and gray used by the evil empire

I have always referred to the Southern Pacific bloody nose paint scheme as primer coat waiting for them to come up with another classic paint scheme (tiger stripes, daylight, black widow). Who would have thought the paint scheme that they would eventually come up with would be Union Pacific yellow?

    @Rich_S And the winner is:

    Illinois Terminal SD38.jpg

To me at least, so far. In high school a guy in my grade drove a car this color. It was awful. But I don't think he ever had a wreck cause they could see him a mile away, literally :)
