The photo I presented last weekend was from a video I was working on. The video is now finished and here it is.
Got another couple of cars done this week. Tichy converted hopper to quasi covered hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II Silver and Reading Green along with Tamiya tan paints, then lettered with kit supplied decals. The "Andersons" acquired a bunch of ex-Wabash panel side hoppers, add extensions which gave them an extra 300CF of capacity as grain is much lighter than coal. These cars hauled grain from the Maumee elevator to the grain docks in Toledo. This is the 13th kit I have finished in this paint sceme, have a couple of more to do. Details West FGE RBL Boxcar kit, added Moloco coupler pockets as they are easier for maintenance that the ones that came with the DW underframe, also added Plano walkover platforms replacing the cast ones on the body. The N&W acquired several hundred of these cars from FGE and some were painted in the Pevler Blue paint rather than the Yellow and Boxcar Red of the standard FGE paint scheme. I used Scalecoat II Wabash Blue (As Pevler came from the Wabash) and decaled with a couple of different Microscale sets. In general use hauling canned goods. Might as well stick with the Wabash theme, Wabash GP35, C424 (B Unit), U25b all painted in Wabash Blue hauling a mixed freight with ART RBL's and Reefers on the head end. As a note, my GP noted a heart murmer on my last visit and ordered an Echocardiogram, found I have a Mitral Valve prolapse with regurgitation, I have an appointment with a plumber (cardiologist) in the near future to see what happens next. Bremner, Every time I see your posts and photos I think of my Dad who had an extensive collection of HO brass interurbans in Pacific Electric, Chicago Aurora and Elgin, North Shore and South Shore railroads. He moved on from this world in 2001 and I still have his collection; in boxes. I don't model in HO but still have not made any effort to do anything with his collection. Maybe I never will ...... It's amazing what you have done in N scale with your interurbans. I am very impressed! Brian
I have been working on a these and other projects for a few months, I never throw anything away, the wife reminds me often that I should throw away some junk, but hey its my junk. Speaking of junk, this is a Athearn caboose from a wreck that was repurposed into a derrick train caboose/ tool car. I painted/ weathered then added the Miller genset/welder and the cutting torch kit and JOBOX tool box from custom finishes, a few barrels, torch bottles from Tichy, some jacks and stands as well as re-rail frogs from Details West. Used brass wire to make the end and side railings/grabs some tool boxes from Precision scale and a few other odds and ends. Some Evergreen styrene was used to complete the car. I bent up some coupler cut bars for it. Handbrake is Calscale with some Evergreen angle and some chain. Painted the car with some old silver Floquil and made some decals up for QA&P MW service. Anyway here it is ready to be put into service. Next is the derrick boom car, this was made from a part of an MDC flat car, part of an Athearn gondola, with some metal caboose step castings. I never throw anything away. The details include wood cribbing for the derrick, spreader bars from Tichy and one made from Stryrene various details from woodland scenics and others. Painted with Floquil old silver, and some QA&P MW decals. Work trains can be a lot of fun to build. I enjoy not being tied down to a specific prototype to model. Bent up some coupler cut bars for it too. Next step is to take these cars out to the barn and put them into service. I have made some updates to this car since I posted some images years ago. I guess there needs to be Derrick for this Derrick work train. This is a Tichy 120 ton crane, I did modify some of the build, as I added a hand brake, by Calscale, and a few small ladder segments to the sides. There is a very close resemblance to this derrick at the Moffat County RR museum in Granby CO. I noticed the inside operator station was painted what I was told a sea-foam green. I thought it was a nice touch, I also remember some 2nd gen EMD cab interiors painted the same color, it is kinda pleasing to the eye. I weathered it up some though. Hey its oil fired steam right. I wish Tichy would have molded the boom in cast white metal, it sure would help with the rigging cables appearance as it is I try to keep tension on the boom with a rubber band for now. Also the kit comes with archbar type trucks, I updated to a Bettendorf truck. Floquil old silver and my QA&P MW decals. I enjoyed building the kit, a little too much flashing on a couple sprues, but it all fit together nicely. This tank car was modeled from images I have seen. The end ladders were a different touch, no running boards on top of the car. Lowered the dome per the image, painted silver and black made up some decals. In addition to MW service this car was also an aux water tender, also used to haul water from a little town called Roaring Springs TX, to a mini Coke bottling plant that was in Paducah TX, I dont know if they ever left the QA&P a whopping 113 mile RR. This flat bottom gon was made from the ends of Athearn BB cars that were cut for other projects. Again painted and decaled for the old "Q". Need a MW flat car now, I am looking for a troop sleeper to finish it out. Thanks for looking
