I thought I’d share this viewing site built along the Norfolk Southern tracks in Ludlow Kentucky. The first impression I had was that it resembles a signal tower. It has a staircase and and elevator to get to the viewing level. Here is the view straight across the tracks. Sorry about my camera phone. Items are closer than the appear! Here is the view looking north towards Cincinnati. That's the Southern railroad bridge spanning the Ohio River. You can just make out Union Terminal behind it.
Very cool! The science & industry museum in downtown Columbus used to have an interactive coal mine - was underground and everything, you sat in an LHD and watched a film, was really fantastic - and at the end there was a beautifully refinished caboose you could go through. Lots of memories of playing in that thing. Sadly, they moved to a different location in the city and a lot of those more extensive exhibits weren't kept. Every kid should get to be in a caboose at some point though HAHA
All I've seen here are two nice wood benches donated by the home owners association. It's across the street from the main line (45mph) and between two switching yards.
