I have N scale Atlas GP30 and GP35 locos (both low nose) that I want to convert to high noses since I'm modeling the Southern Railway. I found the necessary 3-D printed high noses online.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has replaced low noses with high noses on Atlas GP locos?

If so, how involved was it, and what tools are necessary to convert them?

    Thanks for any information.

I cut the nose off of Atlas HH GP38-2's along with a bell from Miniatures by Eric. I bought 7 HH GP bodies from Atlas a few years ago. I used the GP35 cab just cut the front windshield out. I have the GP35 from Shapeways. It was good but using Atlas parts made it easier for window glass and headlight lenses.

    Hi bman,

I think you're right about going with Atlas GP high hood shells. I'll see if there are any available on eBay.

No high nose shells on eBay. I'm not expecting much, but I emailed Atlas to see if they might have some in stock. I heard rumors that they're going to release either some GP7s or GP9s this year.

    Hmm... Kisatchie always
    comes up with difficult-to-
    accomplish projects. It's
    very entertaining...

I know Atlas has been out for a while now. Myself and others modeling Wheeling & Lake Erie, Southern, or Norfolk & Western bought up the high hood GP38/38-2 bodies in a frenzy. The GP7/9 nose dimensions are not quite the same as the 38's. I am not sure how much work would be involved or even it would work using the GP7/8 nose. The shapeways nose is your best bet most likely. I have one high hood noses from the shop for a SD45 I need to try someday. I found a donor shell last month for a Southern SD45.

    Whew, dodged a bullet there - I only have GP7s, 9s 30s and 35s.

    Hmm... that bullet missed
    me by inches...

A Life-Like high nose GP-18 might also work.
