Apartment living is a bit cramped. I'm pondering ways to store my modules, when not in use. Keeping in mind the dire need to be compact, I am wondering what comes into your minds? I have in the past seen some rolling steel shelving. (Big box store offerings.) But those are limited in both shelf width and length. I of course certainly have no power tools or ability to construct anything, without building management going bonkers....

I have the same situation. My plan for a layout keeps coming back to one idea. I also have a 10'x24' storage unit near by. In there and in my apartment I use modular plastic shelving. Being that I got it through 20 some years it varies in size and design. They come disassembled and as I have done is take 4 units and leave off the top shelf to make a fifth unit. I have enough of the larger length and width to cover two opposite walls. Then because there's a window and heating/cooling duct under the window I will use modular drawer units double stacked for support beside the windows. This makes a U shape around the room. Leaving the fourth wall for the closet and and a door on one of the long walls.
I could put a 4x4 on the end by the closet for turn around and a 3x3 by the entry door for the other end turn around. This would leave room in the middle for a 2.5'x6' table. And a lot of storage on the lower shelves.
I do have the power tools and skills but no means to transport except an electric bicycle with a small trailer.

What size modules are you talking about?

To lay flat in storage, shelves would need to be 36.5 inches, minimum length, and 14.5 inches in width.

I bolt my modules together with pieces of thing plywood on each side, essentially turning them into a small self contained shelving unit. This is also how I transport them to shows. The ply is cut out to allow the rail joiners to pass through, and there is a small square dowel screwed to the ply to give the module a resting place while I tighten the wing nuts. I plan on using this system when my modules are stored in my storage shed, and not just for transportation. Right now they lean up against a wall kinda stacked on each other as to not disturb the scenery, and the placement of some of the modules actually protect the others. This is less than ideal though, the modules are still in the way.

    Massey,
Can you post us some pictures of your method?

I have some metal rolling shelf units at work that are 24X46 and the shelves are adjustable. https://www.amazon.com/4-Shelf-Shel...pY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 The link is not for that size.....just so you can see the type. There are a lot of different sizes.
My other thought would be to install shelves just below the ceiling and put the modules up high.
My personal solution won't help you much........I have a 5X10 box trailer and built 3 rolling racks to fit in it. Each one holds 3 modules. Unfortunately it sits next to the garage, so climate control is nonexistent but the modules seem to be doing OK. And when I need to go to a show I just hook up and go.

    Sure thing.

The Double modules, stacked 3 high, excuse the corner modules, I have not built a rack for them yet.

And the triples, there is room for one or two more, I will cut the holes when I get the modules finished.

Please keep in mind that I am in an apartment. Very limited space. And modifying the premises is not allowed. :( Any solution needs to be tight against a wall, but cannot attach to that wall.

Thanks Massey for posting the pictures. I may have to borrow your idea.

After a bit of brainstorming, and measuring a few times, I have managed to create a bit of wall space, where I could potentially place some sort of future storage. The new area would allow up to about three and one half feet in width. So far, the shelving units I have been shown won't fit a full 3 foot module length. Continuing the search for something....
