Finishing up this Bitter Creek Models 36-ft boxcar. These are wood and cardstock kits with a number of metal, plastic, and wire details. You add your own trucks (these are Tahoe 5-ft arch bar trucks). I am making up a few ~1905 "Frisco System" cars with these kits using custom decals from Precision Design Co. I learned a few lessons from this first build and am working on a few more kits, to include some St.L&S.F. lettered and St. L. & G..

Nothing got done this week but I took a bunch of my 86' Hi-Cubes to the club to run on the layout, powered by a pair of Athearn GP40-2's.

    Thanks for looking!

Biggest Ferry Boat of the World "Contra Costa" in 1:220. --- a legend long time ago:

The Contra Costa could load a complete Sunset Limited on its way over the Carquinez Strait..........

    A few more details......

These three desperados come with a different story. To be told soon.

I like the boxcar kit, I've always thought the Frisco logo had the perfect shape and design for a railroad logo. It just has that Wild West flair. On the right side of the car, there is a stencil for a 'Pocket Coupler'. Is that in opposition to a Link and Pin coupler? A Do Not Hump stencil is one thing, but a stencil telling crew members that a car has couplers must be a sign of the times.

That's a beautiful model. It brought back warm memories of my Dad's model of the Great Eastern, also a paddle-wheeler like the Contra Costa. He had it behind glass, and none of us kids were allowed to touch it. He built it himself from a kit. Of course, I was fascinated by it...;)

Thanks for sharing that and triggering the great memories.

Thanks. The decal set is based off of the few photos that we could find for the "Frisco System" cars of that era. I suspect you are correct regarding the pocket coupler markings. I think the attached photo was one of the best examples to pull the complete set of markings.

Last weekend we had the Ophir Tintic and Western train show. I happened to be setting up early with the Rio Grande Modeling and Historical Society. One of the venders near us put this Napa Valley Wine Train on his table.
    Well, it followed me home.
Now I'm doing research to get a six car train, plus GRAPPA, the power car boxcar.
I did get some decals from Microscale, but matching the paint might be rough, as you can't get model masters brass 1417 anymore.
I did install LED headlights in both F7s, as they're both powered...

Paul, I too miss the Model Master line of paints. Been trying Mission Models paints with good results. They do have a brass, part # MMC-002.
