Dom, being a time exposure, they might be meteorite tracks. The FRED flashing across the entire image in the bottom photo is awesome.
I like streak shots a lot. Here's one at MP 12.4, BNSF Glasgow Sub: And another just west of Minot, ND on CP Portal Sub:
One of the few times I was out after dark yielded, as I planned, the International Space Station flying over the Rockville Bridge. What I didn't plan was a westbound train at the same time. That was a bonus. 3 November 2006. Canon 20D and 17-40mm lens, 101 second exposure @ f4. Resized to fit here. Dave
Is the 'International Station' in the pic? If so, where is it relative to the bridge? Beautiful viaduct! Thanks for the pic. Just makes me want to model it. ☻
The streak of light, right center to upper right, is the ISS. Its altitude that evening was 210 miles. Dave
@Kerry Naumann Very cool. I am a big fan of 'space' and check 'APOD', (Astronomical Picture of the Day), daily.
From 08/19/1989 at Anniston, AL, GP-38-2 SOU 5146 rests on a summer evening. This was shot on Kodachrome. I set the camera on a tripod, chose f/16 @ 125 and walked around the unit popping off a handheld flash. With film, you never knew what you had until the roll was processed. It was just as easy to leave the shutter open too long and get too much light.
Thank you. Although my camera was an SLR, it had an electronically-actuated shutter release "cable". Nikon wanted a fortune for the cable, so I began to wonder if it merely shorted the two contacts together. Throwing caution to the wind, I tested my theory and all was well. I created my own "poor man's" cable and used it when I shot that night.
Hardcoaler, that Anniston set is epic! Like you said, you had no idea if you under or overexposed it until days later. Hats off! Here's a CP eastbound 292 at the historic 1912 Soo depot:
I'm going to commit an internet Faux Paux and repost a pic from another thread cause 'Justin Case' said it would be alwright: Later I'll post the video it was extracted from.
The full video outbound: The full video inbound: I didn't get out there tonight. Will try again tomorrow.
As made famous in Steve Goodman's song City of New Orleans, here's the IC station at Kankakee, IL, 10/21/1990.
Agreed. Goodman was from Illinois. I like his original better than Arlo Guthries' more famous version.
