Was running a few errands today and stopped by Devine Jct. in Columbia, SC to see what was happening. Caught two trains in fifteen minutes. CSX was due as well, but rain was encroaching and I packed it in. Local P75 is a turn on its way west to Monetta, SC. The 6927 is a former C&NW SD-60. Those tiny signals are interesting, but I don't know much about them. There are several switches in the area that can be actuated by radio and this is probably one. Train 18D is in from Spartanburg on its way to the Port of Charleston. The 4382 is a GE AC44C6M. The local as seen above used the track in the foreground.
Some track side artifacts. I believe this is in Truckee, California just inside the balloon turning loop. However, they must have been placed there relatively recently as they do not show up on Google Satellite.
Ha, found them on street view. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.328...mLPlr8OYA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!5m1!1e4?hl=en-US

Most likely. There are rules regulating how many powered axles may be used for a train. Knuckles and draft gear are only so strong.

CSX F779 rolls through Columbia, SC nearing the end of her run. That's NS's line to Spartanburg on the right. [10/09/2021]
I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out. I'm not sure. The next time I'm up on one of the bridges that spans this route through town, I'll take a closer look.
Steel ties. Someone driving ATVs down the middle grinding the top layer of rust off exposing the brighter red underneath. That's my theory and I am sticking to it.
I can see it on the track the train is on, too (although not as heavy). It looks too uniform to be spillage. More like something purposely done as Russell surmised. Doug
