I have a Lokpilot Nano Standard (53661) and would like to use the yellow wire that is normally the rear light for another light. I think I need to change CV 114 but not sure to what or if this is possible. I don't want it to go on and off as the loco changes direction. I'd like to assign it to a function key so that I could turn it on or off as desired.

Is this possible? I've got a LokProgrammer and can also use JMRI.

    Thanks,

    Sumner

You have the programmer and it is doable. I have done this on several locomotives

Maybe I have it figured out.

Change cv 34 to 0 -- nothing now turns on in reverse (don't understand what '16' Shunting Mode is)
Change cv 42 to 2 -- Now the yellow wire (old rear light) will be turned on/off with function F8
Change cv 148 to 2 -- That makes the yellow wire (old rear light) output a dimmer
Change cv 114 to 0 to 15 Defines brightness of yellow wire (old rear light)

Is the above right to control the yellow wire with function F8?

    Thanks,

    Sumner

If you LokProgrammer and JMRI, you’ve overthought this much too much. The key, here, is to literally think in terms of the output wire, not what the wire is nominally used for. In LokProgrammer, first go to the Function Outputs page. Yes, the yellow wire output is labeled F0(R), but you can give it whatever name you want for it to show up in the function map. Then, change the characteristics of the output (how you want it to behave etc.). Then on the Function Mapping tab, assign the newly named output to the F key you want. If you want it to be independent of direction, then IGNORE direction, etc.

Don’t worry about which CV you are using, because that changes depending on what row in the function map you are using.

Thanks, I went to do that and it looks like the changes I did also did it as everything was already changed. I'll know now the next time to make it easier by doing what you suggested.

The only thing I don't see is where you can tell it to ignore direction. It is setup as 'dimmer'. I'm assuming that is what I want. I'll have a resistor on the LED but assume I'll still be able to control the brightness intensity to some degree? Haven't done that before with any of my other decoder installs but maybe it isn't an option with the decoders I've used.

Direction and whether only moving or stopped are in the little drop down where you also select the function (at the top of list)

I don't seem to see the same screens you are talking about and what is talked about in the LokProgrammer manual. Do the screens sometimes show up different depending on which decoder you are programming? I'm working on the LokPilot Nano Standard.

I have the programmer but at the moment I'm doing this on the computer without the programmer connected to the track or the computer. Here is what I'm seeing on the two main function screens. I can't find a dropdown that references 'Direction'.

Thanks for your help with this, it is appreciated,

Ah, yes, I forgot the Nano Standard was basically a V1, and Yes, the LokProgrammer changes with the decoder (so only that which is supported is shown).

In V1s, there are set functions/states in the function map, and you just select the physical output(s) and logical functions against the first column conditions. Nothing says you can’t have the same output on with multiple function settings

Thanks, that helps understand what I was seeing,
