I am working on designs / ideas for storage and transportation of 'Mystrium'. I envision a super cooled for the liquid version, covered something for granular and heavy duty flats for blocks of it.
Right now I am waiting for an upgrade chip for my NCE Power Cab. I have the 165 version and the upgrade will make it a 165B version which I need to use my NCE system with a WiFi control via WiThrottle. This will eliminate the need for using JMRI and a computer. Relatively easy upgrade, remove nine screws replace chip reinsert nine screws and done. What could go wrong? What could go wrong?? What could go wrong???
When your finished the upgrade I've got some ocean front property in Pa for sale! It's only a few hours drive from Pittsburgh.
Not in the market for ocean front property. Just not a beach person. I own a couple of bridges in the Pittsburgh area if you are interested. Can make you a real good deal too, got three tunnels as well as a portion of the PA turnpike too.
Inkaneer; I must admit that I appreciate the offer but I'll have to pass. I own a piece of coal from the Williamsport &North Branch, a chunk of rail from the Susquehanna and Eaglesmere, and a spike from the New York & Susquehanna. I almost forgot, some homemade scrapple too. Life is good!
Two tooling type projects I've been wanting to get to. First Trying to free up a frozen pin vise. It was this way from previous owner. I cut semicircles in some cedar scraps I had laying around. Then I clamped everything up nice and solid. I got the collar free using a steel pin punch. I boogered it up just a tiny bit. In hindsight site I should have tried a brass drift first. All disassembled and ready for a good cleaning. Second project. A little benchtop dust collector cobbled together from a 4"x4¼"x3" down spout adapter a 12v muffin fan, a 12v wall wart, some screws and nuts. I still need to cut and add filter media along with solder and shrink wrap leads. For now switching will be done with a sewing machine foot pedal. If it works satisfactorily I plan on eventually making it adapt to my mini table saw but be easily removable for use on the workbench.
Just finishing up a 4-6-4 BR62 DCC conversion and tuning the motor settings. Boy does this engine creep and do it so smoothly. Probably the nicest running steam I have and this includes my beloved Kato's. I'm going to attempt a sound Install once ESU releases their upcoming "nano" sound decoder. Room is going to be tricky but if the dimensions are truly what ESU states I might be able to pull it off. So temporarily (I hope) I am using the ESU lokpilot micro decoder with the next18 connector. This way when I get the sound decoder in I should be able to swap out pretty easily by just unplugging/plugging. Right now the decoder fits all the way in the coal bunker but the sound board is a bit longer so will extend into the cab area a bit. I just got in these dual color nano LEDs (red/white) so I could model EOT/Pusher ops for the rest of my Euro steam so this is my first try with them. Reduces work a little bit and helps to keep things cleaner but each cathode leg (common anode configuration) still requires soldering a resistor in line which is my least favorite task when prepping them for install lol. The engine came with GOW lamps so rather than rigging up my own mounting I reused the brass casings by clearing out the glass and filaments then stringing the LEDs back through them. I used UV glue to build up the "lens" around the exposed LED to duplicate the profile of the glass. Sorry about the quality but I couldn't get my phone to properly focus on the lamp. One can get the idea though. Light casing installed.

Walters DQ Grill & Chill. Best I can do in N Scale. Looks pretty good from a distance, not so much close up with a camera. Thank goodness I bought the paint pens and even they are very difficult. Your DQ build is really coming along good! Like what you did with the front entrance. I just finished building this kit not long ago and it was an enjoyable build. If you are interested, I added 2 Walthers HVAC Units (933-3269) to the roof (4 units come in the kit, 2 large and 2 small even though both look a little large) and also used a Rix n scale ladder from a farm grain elevator to attach to the back to reach the roof. I am still planning for a grill vent or maybe some duct work to add also. To find prototype photos for the roof I jut Googled DQ Grill & Chill photos and one popped up of a construction company site that was installing this equipment on the roof. Was yours N Scale or HO? Either way I would like to see it and did you paint the front wall like I am doing? Have some generic roofing HVAC and other components coming 3D printed from a friend in the next few weeks, which I wall add to the DQ Grill & Chill as well as the DPM Transfer Unit I think it is called. I would really like to see photo's of yours?
in2tec, I did paint the rock wall like you did. I used micro brushes and it worked out really well (or at least I think so). Like your idea of using 3D printed parts. I will try to post a photo soon. Ralph
built this one myself a few months ago. Yes the brickwork sucked, but the rest of the model went pretty ok. Here is what I ended up with.
Here is what’s on my workbench. So, this is a set of T-Trak modules for my club that are going to be used as a fund raiser. It is a kiddie layout where for a donation we will let kids run trains around this layout for a while. We are going to speed limit the trains so full throttle doesn’t sent equipment flying. Since we are a T-Trak group, we made the little layout out of modules, which will allow expansion as well as integration.
My 'Work Bench' is my most pressing project right now. With so many projects planned I realized I need more room so, using materials on hand, (including shelves from the flat pack cabinets), I'm building freestanding shelves over / on the bench. Projects Mysrium Transport Excursion Train Cleaning and oiling of locomoties Cardstock buildings, Retaining Walls and more Special Days Train - Flat cars or Gondolas which will hold changeable signs for holidays and people's birthdays. Note: The layout is in the living room so I'm doing my best to include family whenever I can.
