So, over the years I have run decoders by ESU and Soundtrax on my layout. I have an NCE system, Power cab with a newly added SB5 booster. The Soundtrax decoders have always had issues with the light effects needing reset after any power interruption. So I emailed them and got an answer that the NCE system is the issue because of the way that it sends signals to the rail, one time 'packets' to turn the effect on, whereas Digitrax sends a steady packet. Basically, you need big caps for keep alive since the decoders have no memory for lights effects or "you need to switch to Digitrax controls." Being in N scale, space is limited for caps.
and I am not excited about swapping to Digitrax.

And now, with only running trains occasionally due to work and life issues, time limits. Whenever I do run them they are spotty at best. I just installed a brand new Tsu2 in my T1, and it runs two inches-stop-one inch- stop..........My older Econami's are doing the same now. Only one of my Tsu2's is being 'ok,' but it is wired to the train it pulls for extra pickup wheels, (the entire Empire Builder train is wired together.) My ESU sound decoders and NCE non sound chips run fine in any of their loco's.

Before I change out all of my Soundtraxx decoders, Tsu 2's and Econami's, does any one here know if there is a 'memory' CV like ESU/Loksound has?

And, yes I do clean track off before running. The track has also been treated with CRC 2-26, which helped a lot.

On NCE systems, under "Setup Command Station" one of the options is Function Refresh. The default is off, if you turn it on the command station will refresh functions f0 - f8.

After changing to a '1', it asks about resetting the system. Does this only change the single item? Or everything? Finding info from the NCE book, nothing.

And I found it on the online manual. Got to try it later today, maybe it will be of help. Thanks!
