Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend and got plenty of your model railroading projects done. Let's get started. Saturday: After a super smooth set up and show on Friday, we had a great day on Saturday. The RPM meet was filled with many modelers ready to get back to shows. I believe the show attendance broke the old record but I don't have the numbers yet. Both days went by quickly and I was on the road home and soon back in my own bed. Sunday: As predicted, the lawn had taken on a mind of it's own so the wife and I spent the majority of the day working on the lawn and clearing brush and old plants. We ate a late lunch and finished our yard work by 4:00pm. We rewarded ourselves by riding the Harley to our favorite ice cream shop then visiting some friends. It sure is nice to have the wife ride with me now and saddle bags are something that are super handy. I still have not unpacked from the show but I finally did pick up a ProtoThrottle and I'm itching to play with it. So how about you? What did you accomplish this past weekend? Let us know. We'll return on Friday the 6th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always... High Greens!
Good mornin Y'all, My weekend went as planned - Honeydo list went well. - all accomplished. Decaling of my latest F7 project went very well - a bit more and they will be ready for a clear coat. Received an ultrasonic cleaner - now I can prep some 3D printed cattle cars for paint. Hope Y'all had a great weekend, Wolf
Started the weekend off by testing track work by running a 20-car empty coal train out of staging and up the 2% climb to the steel mill area. Some of cars are unmodified Roundhouse hoppers that are very much underweight, but issues were minimal. In addition to testing track placement with the coal hoppers, I also installed the crossover next to the rolling mill location and parked the work train on the siding. Sooner or later, we’ll have to pickup another gondola or two with ties to fill in the gaps at each joint. Finally, I continued installation of lighting for the lower level. This is a 300 foot strand of exterior weather proof party lights with standard bases. I’ll be using LED daylight bulbs for layout lighting when I progress to that point. Braved the high heat and humidity to start painting the legs for my N Scale train table. The layout will be L-shaped and need seven legs, five like these for the corners and two special ones for where the tables join. I like the gray/green color I found. They'll need a second coat.
Good morning all. Checkups for 3 of our cats on Saturday and a family get together on Sunday afternoon limited my time in the train room this weekend but I was still able to work on a full size plan for Carlin which will be the next expansion of my layout. This plan is not final, but it gives me a much clearer idea of what I can do and what will work in this space. Because this was taking up most of the train room floor, did not work on anything else or run anything. Some more items arrived for making resistor axles so I may roll this up for now and get back to that project.
Wow! More great stuff. Great show report. As for me, I am still working out window assemblies. Also did a little bit on a new drive linkage. Have a great week.
Good to see a lot of positive reports already in for the weekend. Things went very well for me. Saturday was all about Sharon's birthday. Two soccer matches and a nice meal at a little spot we walked by in Tacoma a few days before. Cracker Jacks at the game for dessert! Sunday was busier than I expected. Had a few chores that were not on the original schedule. Still I managed to get started finalizing the dimensions for my driver project. Not done, so no pics to share. Making progress. Stay safe,
Friday night I spent setting up for the Cleveland USBC Awards Banquet and after spending some time at the club on Saturday I attended the Awards Banquet where I was sworn in as the Sargent at Arms for the coming year. On Sunday I finished building the PC&F iced reefer and started on a Branchline Express Reefer and got it done and painted. Hope to decal both cars this week along with starting on Branchline 40’ boxcar. Rick Jesionowski
Spent a good part of Saturday looking for a specific brand and flavor of prescription dog food. Found 4 cans 45 minutes from home. I will be searching more this week. Wife wasn't feeling well on Sunday, not sure why. I did a few little projects around the house. No modeling this weekend. I did verify that the information I had previously entered into my inventory program was correct for about a dozen cars. Found two that either were missing information or had something entered wrong.
Drilled a few holes, started to make a few truss rods from wire. But it was too warm and my ambition level melted.
Awesome work and weekends for all of you folks. We went out of town to the great Smokies near the NC/Tennessee border. Our best friends for over 35 years retired and moved from the DC area to a great house 4500ft up over Waynesville, NC. We hadn't been able to see them since August of 2019 before covid. It was great to go out there and chill. Left Friday AM and returned a couple of hours ago. The ONLY railroading thing I did was take pictures of rock cliffs, etc on the Blueridge Parkway since that is the mountain range I model. Good work all!!!
Friday was a bust. Tool the model to work on bit a mudslide has other ideas. Sunday I was able to get end plate covers on the modules to protect the track. Monday was an even better day. I worked on structures all afternoon. I finished the last N scale scratch build for one of my modules. It is the operations building at the Wendover Army airbase. I also spent the rest of the time applying decals to a stack of other structures. I have less than two weeks to finish up for the Evanston meet on the 19th. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I did not have much modeling time in the last few weeks, but I did make progress on two N scale locomotive modifications. I finished exhaust stack and fan modifications to an RS3 body and filling seams to make it into an RS3M and built the unique boxy air filter housing on the GP9M for my N scale Housatonic RR layout. I then primed them with Tamiya light gray primer and got a base coat of CNW yellow on the main shells and CNW green on the frames, handrails and cabs. Next weekend will be masking and green paint on the main body shells. Then gloss coat, HRRC decals and dull coat. Weathering will wait for this winter.
Well the important thing is friends and family are all ok. The tornado touched down very close to my friends house. Looking at it's path, must have passed over my sisters house then touched down again. Not much modeling done.. Instead of cutting roofing material for the grainery and finishing the box car kit I decided to repaint the concrete portions of the grainery. I'm still not happy with the results. I glazed a couple windows with some clear plastic packaging material. Tolerances are really tight because of the thin window frames. I did manage to get the layout to the first floor without marking up any woodwork on the 1st to 2nd floor stairway. Then I went out the kitchen and through the outside cellar door. I did make some progress with my never-ending reorganization of my modeling work area.
Worked all weekend but did manage to get caught up on reading a couple of model railroad publications during the few minutes of down time here and there. System rollout was successful so that was big win as well.
