I had quite a few auctions with Make an Offer button that automatically rejected my offer because I was below what the seller had set it at. Why even bother putting a Make an Offer button and set a minimum, if you won't consider my offer?! For sellers convenience? F-that. Just set the price to that lowest price you expect as BIN then and see what happens. Wish fleaBay would have Make an Offer a mandatory button on all auctions, and disallow minimum amount on it. Then we can all offer what we are willing to pay, instead of some outrageous price that sellers expect to get.

That's happened to me as well. In fact, every Make An Offer I've responded to has been automatically rejected and all were fair offers.
Must be a MRR thing. I did two Make An Offer for refrigerator water filters and both sellers took it. Saved about 20%. Never tried MAO for MRR.
I get lucky from time to time with MAO, but lately I've noticed that sellers put those minimums and I get auto-rejected seconds after I send in my offer.
Does the seller receive a notice, when an offer is made but rejected? I would guess that answer is yes?
I do not think they do, because last time I bid on a desoldering iron, I put MAO and got rejected right away. I sent a message to the seller asking why even bother with MAO if you are not willing to entertain it, and the seller "Sorry if I failed to respond to the offer. There's an identical item from another seller." To me it means it was automated and they did not even get a notice.
I think I did once receive a message from a Seller who bettered price on a Watched item. The offer only slightly dented a high asking price and I never responded. Someone did eventually pay up for it, but I was fine. I love this hobby, but have never been one to pay an inflated price to acquire something. Just the way I'm wired I guess.
That would give me yet another reason to not list anything. I put reasonable opening prices on what I list... why would I want to accept anything lower? Seems like it would allow for more auto-bottom-feeding. I'm sure someone would figure out how to auto-offer one cent on everything just to make more work for legitimate sellers.
Because you are listing on fleaBay, where many sellers think it's perfectly alright to ask for an outrageous price above the cost of a new item, for used items they got from an estate sale and paid cents to a dollar. I'm not saying you do this, but some do which makes everyone look bad. That's why we need an alternative for fleaBay, where we can negotiate a price. I don't have to pay what you are asking for, but I should have any option to offer you what I'm willing to pay for it, for your consideration. It should be no different than if we met in person, where offers back and forth happen all the time. What *everyone* misunderstands in general, is that any price tag, anywhere, is negotiable. Just because they put a price tag on something in a store, does not mean that's the final price of an item. They can write as much as they like that the price is "non-negotiable". That is meaningless and just a play on our psyche. Unfortunately, we don't understand the (incredible) power we have as buyers to exercise our right to offer another value. Instead, we take the price tag as-is, and concede. If everyone said that they were only willing to pay $500 for a $1,000 iPhone price tag, and boycot purchasing at a $1,000 price, Apple would get the message pretty fast (even at $500 their profit margin is excellent), but through psychological manipulation, they have "persusaded" people that they have to pay $1,000 because they are "investing" into a "lifestyle", and not buying a piece of modern electronics which will be forcefully obsoleted in a year's time.
That's my guiding principle too George. I don't post items for idle entertainment, I post them to sell.

I ran my recent garage sale of my father's railroad books and trains the same way I do, well, used to do, eBay. I put reasonable prices on things, five "bottom feeders" showed up including one the day before and I shooed them away, either directly or indirectly. (I was talking loudly to some of my buddies who came over about Bottom Feeder #2 who had just left as Bottom Feeder #3 entered. He stayed about 30 seconds. Buh-bye!) I WILL THROW THINGS OUT before I let someone "take them off my hands" for cents on the dollar. Regrettably, there is no alternative to fleapay. If there was, we would have migrated to it. They bring in more final sale revenue from higher prices and long ago abandoned worrying about their listing to sales ratio in my opinion.

Plus, the AHM/Lima Q1B is notorious for being one of the worst locomotives in model railroading history. Spookshow lucked out and found one that actually did operate, thus his "C" grade, but added "if you can find one that runs."
Danger Will Robinson!!!! https://www.ebay.com/itm/352836852972 They may look like bargain trucks with generic knuckle couplers, but don't be tempted! The mounting hole is not standard size and the coupler box sits way up high vs. others. And the wheels look like they've been sent through a grinder.
Ha, saw those, too... It looks like Atlas or MT threw away their 40 year old injection moulds, which someone then found in the dumpster and started pressing trucks and wheels again. Except that moulds didn't include the couplers, so they had to McGuyver it.
