    Dear all

I am currently producing a film about American railroads. I will show the whole story with models operating on my layout.
Since I also would like to include some history, I am looking for some film recordings of the following railroads:

    - Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad
    - Baltimore and Ohio Railroad
    - Western Maryland Railroad
    - Chemie System
    - Atlantic Coast Line Railroad
    - Seaboard Air Line Railroad
    - Seaboard Coast Line
    - Southern Railroad
    - Norfolk Western Railroad

Would anyone in here be able to provide me with some film recordings in 4K MP4?

This film is absolutely without commercial background. The purpose of this film is to bring European model railroaders closer to the US railroads.

Thank you in advance for your help and best regards from Switzerland

    Thom

I hope someone here can help. These railroads were merged into larger systems 40+ years ago. I'm guessing that most of us who shot movies in the era that these railroads operated used 8mm film, and Beta and VHS camcorders. These are unlikely to produce anything near the clarity you wish.

As an example, here's an awful Betacam movie that I shot in 12/1983. The sound is the best part. :) Air horn fans will like it at 2:30.

And some didn't last very long, sometimes not long enough to repaint all their locomotives. For instance...

    - Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad
    - Baltimore and Ohio Railroad
    - Western Maryland Railroad
    - Chemie System
    - Atlantic Coast Line Railroad
    - Seaboard Air Line Railroad
    - Seaboard Coast Line

The name is Chessie, which was originally the kitten the C & O used in advertising. The first three were among the roads that created the Chessie System, and the kitten got so honored because the C & O was the dominant partner financially. Likewise, the Atlantic Coast and Seaboard Air lines formed the SCL.

The thing that makes this history relevant is that the Chessie and Seaboard Coast didn't last that long before they married and formed CSX, which loosely translates as Chessie, Seaboard Xcetera. So, yeah, these aren't common pics, and rarer movies, because fans only had so long to capture them. And no small amount of what you see isn't, say, Chessie System paint, but rather C & O and B & O power lashed up together.

Add a requirement that you get high resolution from the era of Super 8 film and Betamax tape and it does become quite the elusive quarry to hunt. Good luck!

Well, I am not looking for prototype recordings, but for recordings of models passing by infront of the camera. Does anyone have such recordings of the above listed railroads in 4K? Thank you

    Hi all
It's been over two months since I asked for help here. Unfortunately, no one has responded here. Very pity. I was nevertheless interested to know exactly what the reason is.
Is it not a common practice in the USA to support each other among like-minded people? In Europe we do it like this.
As I wrote, I'm still looking for film recordings of various railroad companies. Of course, there could also be photos which I would like to include in my grand USA special.
Thank you for an answer and best regards from Switzerland

I have several videos, but none of the RR's you are seeking. All the RR's I model are Western US RR's.

When I live close to many railroads together I didn't need videos or pictures. I had the real thing.
Try other areas of this board and others that relate more to the real thing instead of models.
    Best wishes.

    Hi Thom,

The person who can probably offer the most help here is @Tompm , who posts excellent videos of his eastern models. You may wish to start a "Conversation" with him (a personal chat) so that he sees it. Not all of us read all of the threads here; I miss many myself.

Tompm's interests focus on the "anthracite" lines in eastern Pennsylvania such as the NYO&W, Erie, LV, RDG, CNJ, NYS&W, DL&W, PRR, D&H, etc..

I'm an eastern modeler, but lacking the time, equipment and technical skills, have never had much of an interest in videography. In my experience, videography seems to be the preferred medium for younger modelers and railfans, though there are exceptions of course. Younger modelers are more apt to model the modern railroads they know best, such as NS, CSX, BNSF, UP, CN and CP. The models you seek are familiar to an older generation less likely to take an interest in producing and editing videos.

Hope this helps and I wish you success with your project. :)

    Hello Thom

As Hardcoaler stated I do model some of the roads you are interested in such as the B&O, WM, and Chessie. My modeling era is the transition era with some going into the 1960's and 1970's.

I have been dabbling in making videos for the last year or so. Due to my layout being under reconstruction I currently only have one scene operating for videos and photos.

My modeling is centered around the following lines:
    Lehigh & New England
    New York Ontario & Western
    Reading
Central Railroad of New Jersey (CNJ or Jersey Central)
    Lehigh & Hudson River
    Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines
    Pennsylvania
    Penn Central
    Baltimore & Ohio
    Western Maryland
    Chessie System
    Amtrak

Feel free to contact me here in this thread or PM.

First it wasn't clear until the third or fourth post that you wanted video of MODELS, not prototype. Second in order to have the video somebody who reads these forums AND models those railroads or has engines from those railroads would have to have video. Of all the modelers I know in my city NONE of them model the roads you asked about, so neither I nor anybody I know would have have video that you want.

Its not that anybody is ignoring you its that you weren't clear and you asked for something VERY specific about railroads that don't have as many modelers as other railroads.

(Well there is one C&O modeler but he has never had a layout and so has no footage of C&O models.)
