Sometimes road planning - and strict interpretation of work orders - makes for strange results::eek:

Thats somewhere out in Quebec's Eastern Townships. It took them quite a while to move that pole, and who should move it (several jurisdictions involved, provincial, municipal, Hydro-Quebec... everyone pointing at the other guy).

Yeah I have a feeling artistic license is going to be my friend, seeing as how each base is 2' x 4' and even 3-1/4 seems big. SO if I make each lane 1" is that a problem, so two lanes equals 2" total, for just the lanes for the cars going each way. I am the only one that is going to see it, and of course pictures I post :) When I look on YouTube I have no idea the size, I know most just look good, and they are all sizes too.

Anyway planning on testing it on piece of board before I try it on the layout. See what it looks like with some of my cars and trucks and buildings! Like I said, it's really just for me, well, and my nieces! When they come over.

That's the best way of finding out what works for you. Draw it on a piece of paper or on a bare board and try to find a compromise that suits your situation.

Have at it, and most of all, have fun! ;)

image-2021-08-15-18_01_06-310.JPG So I have my diorama now to test the WS Road Learning System out and my Plaster Cloth stuff I got at Michaels on clearance months ago. I have some printed roads for mocking up and they are about 1 3/8" wide and seem way too small when I put my cars and trucks on it. In the video below he states 33 scale feet which is about 3 inches and his look really good. Is this a good measurement to use for me? Or 2 or 1 1/2 inches on my diorama and my 2 x 4 ' bases? I mean I know it's up to me, just never done this before, and learning.

This will hopefully be a lot of fun just focusing on the diorama for testing while running some trains on one of my 2 x 4' bases :) I hope! Like his idea of the plaster cloth on the base?

Also, for people that use the WS road System or another method, how do you do the Yellow & White line markings, and the Stop stuff at an intersection?

Well, here it is the Woodland Scenics Road Learning Kit. I screwed up Big time by mixing it all at one time. The entire 8 oz's of Smooth It. What an idiot, but to be honest, it's why I bought it and I am testing it on a diorama. Learn from me, and go slow in preparation, and mix in small amounts. But once you get it mixed up, be ready to rock and roll as you have about 15 minutes working time!

As stated in the instructions, DO NOT clean or pour any of this inside your house, sink, toilet, etc.... Thank goodness I read the instructions over and over again, even before I started! Watching another YT video on using it I am gonna have to touch up some spots with Spackle, before and after sanding or painting it with the included Black paint.

I'll have a follow up video in the next day or so. And I have to find some Krafts Smart FINE White & Yellow pens or a brand similar!

As you can see need to touch up paint. Might wait till I get my new order of Smooth It and tape and try to smooth it out more. I was a little rough with the sanding. Tell you what, works as advertised. Me like, so ordered quart of Smooth It, cause I screwed up mixing too much. And 30 feet of paving tape.

Well you may be waiting a very long time for a final product :) I tend to take a very, very long time on my model railroad projects, or specifically the actual 2' x 4' main base. Although the main reason for the diorama was to have less space to worry about when trying to do some actual scenery for a change. So far it's working out, so far!

I just hope to get it to a decent looking state at some point. Then I will be happy, and maybe add more details over time. We will see. I will say I really, really like the Smooth It road system. It's looks way better than anything I have ever tried.

I am also kind of digging the mock too :) The key for me, is to take my time!

I know where you're coming from. It took me just over two years to get to about 99% of my 6'x8' HO layout. There's still plenty to do (like adding static grass, more lighting, etc.) even after two more years.

Your diorama is going to turn out just fine.

Received my paint pens and testing before I redo the Smooth It road and repaint with road paint and then will try the paint pens again. Gonna take some practice.

Looks great. But, where's the roundy-a-bouts (or what ever)?

Making straight roads is hard enough right now. As you can tell from how bad the first attempt looks :) Although close up pictures of anything show a lot of imperfections, but when you look at it from a distance, hard to tell really. For most modelling things. I am excited to try sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, sidewalk to house, etc... with the Smooth It. Not really sure what a roundy-a-bout is? Maybe in England? Me in USA :) Curbs are a different story at this time. Maybe in the future?

More learning Smooth It on the diorama, first sidewalk attempt, and the round thing on the pavement by tape I used it and a cheap container to make a large concrete area. A large tree will go in the middle after removing container, I hope. Reason for diorama to learn and test stuff.

Just a quick mock-up of curbs with .040 square styrene. A lot to learn.

I think that might be the Summit laser kit from a few years ago.. Not sure if it's still available.
