Welcome back everyone, I hope you had a great weekend and got a lot done. Let's see how we all did.

Saturday: An early start of packing the car and leaving my beloved state of New Hampshire. We got on the road at 7:45am and together with my brother, our two Beagles and his pup, we caravanned from New Hampshire to Illinois making it back around 1:00am Sunday Morning.

Sunday: Obviously sleeping in was to be expected. I got up at 9:00am and started the day by putting things away and looking at the jungle that had grown in my two week absence. I was able however to sand down, prime and finish stain the the Athearn display as well as help my brother for his trip to South Dakota. We ended the day with steak and sweet potatoes on the grill. So I did get some woo woo woo done!

So how about you? What did you get accomplished this past weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 23rd to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

I have a successful weekend working on the layout.

I started by extending the subroadbed around the end of the peninsula on the lower level to the other side and is now directly over top the track below. Then cork roadbed was glued down and sanded.

Finally installed the switch to the chemical plant plus 9 feet of track part way around the end of the peninsula.

I also installed the first six joint bars working upgrade behind the track laying progress. These are Details West 6-hole joint bars. Oh my, what have I done!?!?

It is time to start getting serious about the backdrop and lighting! I picked up some paint color chips at Ace Hardware to start comparing backdrop colors. I’m going to stick with the dead winter theme I’ve modeled in the past. I’m leaning towards Benjamin Moore 1592 for the base and 1598 for blending into the lighter color while wet for highlights and storm clouds.

Good morning all. This weekend spent a good amount of time with the layout continuing work on signaling. Mostly a repeat of last weekend only on the SP line this time. The NCE detectors that I ordered last weekend arrived on Saturday so I was able to get those installed and working. I mounted them on the same board that the Team Digital dual unit had been. Still waiting for the wiring to hook it up. It's been interesting following the tracking on it. Looks like FedEX flew it from Georgia to Ohio, Then trucked it to BNSF in Maywood, IL. It's been on the rails in a FedEX trailer from Maywood to Stockton, CA via Barstow. Should get here today or tomorrow. Makes me want to look for some FedEX trailers for my inter-modal train.

Got two more signals finished. I cut gaps in the rails at the location I wanted to install them. Because there is a slight curve here, I offset the gaps by a couple of inches. After installing the signals I found that the red on one of them was not working. Must have been damaged while installing so had to remove it for repair / rebuild.

With the new gap I again had to add a new pair of feeder wires. I also decided to put little mileposts at the points where the gaps for the gate blocks are so I can see the locations while operating the layout. Also started getting interested in adding some metal wheels with axle resistors to my cabooses so the train will be detected after the engines leave the block and ordered some conductive paint and surface mount resistors.

    Good morning Y'all.

I was able to accomplish what I wanted.
The F7's are painted - ready for decals. I also programmed them and changed out the MT 1015's for closer coupling Red Caboose (Unimate) couplers.

Hope Y'all had a great weekend,
    Wolf

I built the "Apothecary" kit from Berkshire Valley Models. It comes with a decal that says "Family Apothecary", but could not pass up on the opportunity for the fans of Shitt's Creek.....

Well, over the weekend I managed to decal the IMRC 57' PC&F Mechanical Reefer and an Athearn 2 Bay Hopper along with an Athearn 40' Trailer.

I also built another Athearn 2 Bay Hopper and added the Pikestuff Panel Side Panels and it is ready for painting, also painted a Walthers PS4427CF Covered Hopper and a Branchline 40' Boxcar which will be ready for decaling.

I did not go to the club on Saturday as they had the Srongsville, OH Homes Days (Another waste of Taxpayer money) and they usually close the parking lot where we park so the police can park their cars their during home days.

Will be getting ready today for our trip to California to see the grandkids, should be a fun week.

The weekend seemed to fly by. Saturday ended up being consumed by work issues and ubering my son between scouting activities he had. Sunday was more scout stuff but I was at least able to pick up the few items I needed from Home Depot and Michael's for some the projects I had planned to do Saturday.

Pretty food weekend considering I got side tracked w/ some office work tasks. Still got most of what I wanted done.
    • Cut out a section of track and installed a #4 new Walthers turnout for an industrial siding for the future grain unloading at C&C Dog Treat factory.
    • Got the feeders put in and wired the frog for polarity switching… got the new Tortoise installed and wiring harness made.
    • Started putting beams together from the CV bridge kit. This will bridge over all tracks at Albemarle to a new layout area.
    • Ordered an ITLA building kit that will house covered hopper unloading at the new siding I installed.

Well, just created one new page on my website. Otherwise, did nothing. Too tired from the warmth of summer, (I hate summer weather! Always have, always will!), inhaling the fire smoke and work.

We had a rather productive weekend. I did a heavy-duty cleaning and maxing of the kitchen, breakfast nook, and dining room floors. We weeded one of the gardens.

Saturday night we had some window rattlers roll through with one heck of a light show and rain.

I did not make it to the layout so modelwise the weekend was a bust. Maybe tonight?

Once again I am impressed by the level of accomplishment seen above. All projects included. The apothecary shop looks real. After last week and getting some down time and just pondering the next direction I am simply researching info about a more simple residential building. Also some upgrades could be useful. I hope all have a great week. (y)

I made good progress on the two remaining train table legs. These will be placed where two hollow-core door tables join in an 'L' shape, so they're different than the other legs. The small "shelves" on the upper leg sides are set into dadoes, so are straight, square and very strong. The hollow-core door edges will rest on these.

The smoke stack, finally, is done. Looking deceptively simple, I discovered my tool set was too limited to compensate for my even more limited skill set.

    Here's the pieces:

Looking at the weekend overall, it was a good one. Got entertained by the antics of a 2-year old. Had some pizza, cake and ice cream. Watched a little soccer with mixed results.

Now to start planning my next loco parts. First, I need to turn the main drivers into disc/Boxpok drivers. Second, the steam dome. Third, the trailing truck. So far I have not found an off-the-shelf solution for any of them.

    Stay safe,

I weathered some covered hoppers, added reflective strips to them. Then I made some minor improvements to a custom paint WC GP40 I picked up a while back-number board decals and fixed the raying from the decoder LED with some paint on the interior cab roof. Finished up Sunday by speed matching (just 3 point) my locomotives so I’ve got a little more flexibility when I build consists.

I am almost done with my Walthers Modern Gas Station. Got the Yellow safety poles put in yesterday. Almost there after about 10-14 days of continuous work on it. I recommend it to people, it's a lot of fun. I build very few plastic model kits, but I really enjoyed this one. Heck, I even got the decals on without them tearing somehow :) And they are tiny! And the kit looks really cool!

    Late reply,
Inside I replaced the filter media on the Aprilaire central air filter, and cleaned the filters in the cellar dehumidifier and air purifiers and moved the cellar workbench, scubbed the wall where the AC condensate started to cause mildew.

Outside I completed the grading around the house foundation, ran the AC condensate line away from the foundation.

I reconditioned an old scythette, (the only one I've ever seen), sharpened it razor sharp and trimmed around the flower beds and under the picket fence. It worked well, was a joy to use didn't make the noise of a 2 stroke and didn't throw trimmings into the mulch! Now I'm thinking about getting a new full size European scythe for cleaning the poison ivy infested fence line.

As far as modeling goes I spent some time cleaning up in my little train room. I didn't make as much progress as would have liked but I finally got started. Now I can see the top of my workbench.
