The action, though contrived, is fun, but I also liked the stories within/around the story, i.e. redemption, forgiveness, etc. It's one of those movies that, even though you've seen it before, you enjoy rooting for the heroes and hissing at the antagonists, all over again.

Movies are supposed to be entertaining, not accurate. I was watching a TV show that had a subplot about racing the other day. During the 'pit stop' the jack man went to the back of the car to jack it up until someone pointed to the middle of the car. At least two lug nuts were on the tire when they cut to showing the tire being removed. Best part is the race track had a driveway the race cars entered to get into the parking lot where the rest of the 'track' was located.

Even in 'reality' TV, what you see isn't 'REAL'. Having a brother in law that was on one of the Alaskan 'reality' shows, he explained that there were LOTS of things that never actually 'happened'. According to the producers of the show, if it COULD have happened, it could have been real and that was close enough. If there isn't any drama, then there isn't going to be any ratings, and there won't be any show.

Like that show "Railroad Alaska". There's a hoot for ya. A couple of weeks back, (I don't recall why it even came up), a conductor friend mentioned it. We both stood there, having a good laugh.:rolleyes::rolleyes::D

Oh yes. Many. It centers on the Alaska RR and their various operations each day. It just tends to get a bit melodramatic.

A Milwaukee Road fan must see. Many locations can be identified. There are at least three known editions (length) of this movie.

And as I recall, the Producers somehow failed to include even one electric locomotive in any shot. All of that beautiful new wire and not a pantograph to be seen. o_O It's been many years since I last saw it, but I enjoyed it.(y)

On the other side of the coin is the movie 'Bullet'. The chase scene thru San Fransisco is turn-by-turn accurate. You can still drive it an not miss a scene (as opposed to other movies and shows where the chase scenes that jump from the downtown to waterfront to Hate/Asbury to Sunset and back).

Have you counted the number of wheel covers lost by the chased car? I went to it three times while in the army. The last two was just to count and win a bet.
Even McQueen's mistakes were kept in.

The problem with being a runaway train is that someone can always follow your tracks and find you...

You don't start a consist off by slamming the throttle into 8th notch. Then the engineer is walking around the cab, who's keeping their foot on the dead man's petal? Which would have been the safety appliance for that time period. Next the engineer is having chest pains so he pulls the fireman's emergency handle which should have put the locomotive consist into emergency and drop the load on all locomotives, yet the locomotives keep rolling along. I really like when the locomotives crash into a loaded flat car and caboose and still manage to stay on the rails. It's a great action adventure, but the director took several liberties with actual events.

Watch this video for some info on what really happens --->

I also like the movie Danger Lights listed above and what's really neat is it was filmed on the Milwaukee Roads Pacific extension with several scenes filmed in 16 mile canyon. But I've never seen anyone promoted from machinist to engineer without them first having to go to engineer school then pass a book of rules test. Also the steam tug of war, heads would roll if something went wrong. They are great action adventure movies, but at times they slip into fantasy land.

And don't get me started on reality TV. Man there was a lot of pure BS on that Alaskan Railroad show. I loved it on the one show when the alerter went off and they tried to say the over size load shifted and they had to stop and check the oversize load. No, that was the alerter that the engineers acknowledges with a whisker switch or push button. If not acknowledged within 25 seconds a penalty brake application will stop the train.
