Welcome back everyone. I hope your Memorial Day Weekend was a good one, let's get started.

Saturday: The planned mini family reunion was good. It was nice to relax and visit.

Sunday: I spent some time working on the N scale layout. Try as I may, I still cannot find a set of track I would like to model. I may just take a break and enjoy the summer. Ang and I finished the removal of the ramp and staircase and did yardwork until her Dad and my brother showed up. We had a good ride on the motorcycles and enjoyed the fire pit.

Memorial Day: We took it easy, went to Menards, got sticker shock on lumbar, came home and worked on the grounds until my Brother showed up along with my N Scale buddy and his wife. We enjoyed burgers and brats on the grill as well as the fire pit and like that, the long weekend was over.

So how about you? How did your weekend go? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 4th to see how we did. Until then, have a good week, stay safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Didn’t get all I wanted, but got stuff done. Mostly associated w/ advancing the Highland Paint and Seal building. Got the back and roof built, put a vent stack in one of the widows. And also got roofing (sandpaper) put on. Finished putting in window glass as well.

I had a great weekend. I hope I honored those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Friday night: Went to my friends house for train night. We had a blast.

Saturday and Sunday: Worked on my F7 project.

Monday: Visited another friend - he updated me on his progress on his layout.
Then I continued with the F7's -- ready for decals.

Hope Y'all had a great weekend,
    Wolf

First train through the wall! The beefy little Atlas S4 took the first train to the end of the current progress. It took 22 cars up the 1.5% grade with no trouble.

Saturday night, I installed the lower level benchwork over staging level to the left of the HVAC. If you refer back to the track plans, the ends of the four coal yard tracks will peek out from behind the HVAC blower by a foot or two. There is room for another industry to the left, but I may leave this alone to be a scenic area.

Lower level benchwork is now complete in a counter clockwise direction from the classification yard, engine service tracks and coal yard. Benchwork progress for the lower level is highlighted here. The next part will be to raise the stone viaduct up about 5-1/2 inches to meet the benchwork height.

Speaking of the stone viaduct, it has been temporarily set in place again to determine the height difference. The main track to/from staging is now in place behind it, which will be hidden beneath the Elk River.

Beyond raising the viaduct, I’m going to have to decide whether to start building the false wall for the peninsula or start on putting plywood down on the lower level benchwork and lay track in the classification yard.

Got most of the engines their new addresses and into JMRI. Decided to keep all except the duplicate 957 UP E9A. I was hoping to be able to run a B unit for sound in a consist, but it's not quite working the way I want. Can't get the bell and horn to sound.

Discovered I prefer consisting with Engine Driver over the barbie doll throttle. Nice to see who is in the consist.

The GS-4 runs like a champ, but I can't get 844 to stay on the track. Have to find someone who can do the fine work referenced on the internet to see if that helps.

Ran the UP and SP all weekend. Have intermittent decoupling issues with the Daylight consist, but trackwork is still ongoing.

Next step is getting the turntable running and speed matching.

Good morning all. I spent all of my hobby time over the weekend at the work bench assembling the Micron Arts Pratt Truss bridge kit. I have found this to be a compelling project that is hard to put down so it's got done quicker than I thought it would. I am soldering it so not waiting for glue to dry has also made it go faster. It's amazing to me how a flimsy sheet of thin brass can become as strong and ridged as this bridge is, and it's nice and square too. Just a few details and cleaning up left, then painting.

Watched the Indy 500. First time in a few years and it was actually interesting. Did a little on my tank car project. Mostly just scanned slides and tried to relax.

It was a very good weekend. Warm enough for short sleeves. Nothing out of the ordinary, but the local shops and eateries were a little busier. A good sign as we start getting out and about again.

As to modeling, I am very happy with what I got done. Finally attached the ladders to the tender. Put all the other bits on first. Had a minor setback when I dropped the stand, with tender attached, onto the workbench. Put the parts back together with nothing lost but time. Made a couple changes to the order of assembly as things unfolded. Here is where I am at:
    tender with ladders.JPG

The slanted piece above the handrail stanchions is a piece of angle iron on the prototype. Still not completely sure what its function is.

I also started turning the arbor for boiler rev A. It looks like a piece of round aluminum stock, which it is, so I am skipping the picture.

    Stay safe,

Had a productive weekend on the n scale CF7. Goals were to build the fuel tank, shape the pilot, design horns. I did all that and did some more adjusting of handrail fit. There are a couple of things left to do but the hardest parts are done.

    Cheers -Mike

With the rain this weekend we got a few inside things done. We touched up some paint on the walls. Straightened up a few messes. We did relax some on Saturday to help recover from out one night trip to Ocean City, MD. Sunday we took my daughter to get a new desktop computer. Some of the things she needs to do she cannot do on her laptop. We also went to Target where my wife ventured into the store to look around for the first time in over a year.

Modeling I installed the inclines at the edge of the Water Tower Diorama. This stopped the uncoupling and derailing. I ran trains for some time. I had a coupling problem with my Erie Built A and B units. Discovered the Proto coupler on the B unit was busted. I replaced it with a Kadee #5. Just like the rear coupler box did when I replaced the coupler the clip on the box broke. Got out the drill, the tap, and screw and redid the box.

Saturday was a special day. My wife, daughter, and I rode the Strasburg Railroad’s Wine and Cheese Train. The train was pulled by Norfolk and Western #611. I have not personally seen 611 since the 1987 NRHS Convention in Roanoke when she ran with the A #1218.

Fine projects all around. Glad to see them. I am piece fitting mouldings and doors and window frames and wainscoting and I am moving so slow some have had to "sight me" to detect any motion! Ya'll have fun and stay well. (y)

Another shipment from Shapeways arrived. Previously I had mocked up an adapter so I could install surplus Rapido FB-2 sideframes on Athearn trucks.

The production version arrived and it is really close. The part that attaches to the sideframe is fine, but I've discovered some variation between the six pairs of Athearn trucks I have so the side that interfaces the truck needed some adjustment. I was able to make the parts I received work though.

Another project that's been in development forever it seems is a conversion kit to make Athearn's 5-bay Ortner Rapid Discharge hopper into a close enough model of Southern's 4-bay version. It's been a challenge to measure the Athearn model well enough to design parts to fit. I can get close but not exact. That means I have to iterate the design, slowly changing things until I receive a part that fits just right. Well, this time wasn't it. I'm really close though, about 0.012" off. Close enough to be able to use the parts on these two models.

On these two the center bay filler part has been installed along with the new cross brace. Where the old cross braces were between the second and third and third and fourth bays there are locating dimples in the carbody interior sides. Those dimples have been filled with Bondo. When it cures I'll sand it smooth. I made a quick mix of paint to see the parts painted since the translucent acrylic doesn't show detail very well. I'll work up a better mix of paint and airbrush all the cars at once after they're all done. Five down, only 31 to go!

Here's an underside view showing the center bays cut out and the new actuating levers installed.

And here's a detail of the painted car. Once they have some paint on them the 3D printed actuating parts installed where the center bay used to be are a pretty good match for the molded plastic parts installed elsewhere.

Is there another on the opposite side? I am wondering if it has anything to do with water overfill runoff?

Over the weekend, I got the 40' HY-Cube painted, and one side of the car decaled. I also Decaled a boxcar converted to TOFC flat decaled along with a 45' Trailer to go with it. Finished assembling an Athearn 50' 5347CF Boxcar kit and it will it the paint shop this week. Started on an Athearn PS 2893Cf Covered Hopper. Also made up some mud flaps for the Athearn 45' Trailers which don't come with them. Did some more work on the Atlas-Kato C424 installing more detail parts. Also worked on getting some loads into gons and flatcars. Ordered some more 33" Intermountain Wheelsets as Lobards was having a sale on them this weekend.

I was able to assemble the Booster District in a box Sunday. Today I worked on the last module I plan on working on at this time. The bridge over the Green River at Green River Utah. So far so good.[IMG]
