    Roco HO AC4400W update
    Author: brfriedm

    ----------------------------------

My local dealer called me today and asked me if I wanted to order the new Roco AC4400W's! Hmmm. Maybe. He faxed me over the order form from E-R Models and I thought I would share the info.

E-R Models will be the importer.

All models have DCC decoders installed, Road detail specific parts added, Hi Ad trucks, RTR, Operating ditch lights(blinking or steady). 3rd road # to have factory installed sound.

    Road Names

CSX - New paint scheme - GN1(Gold Nose 1) 3 road numbers total. 2 with DCC decoder only, 3rd # with decoder and sound.

C&NW - Yellow and Green - 3 road numbers total. 2 with DCC decoder only, 3rd # with decoder and sound.

CP - Dual Flag Scheme - 3 road numbers total. 2 with DCC decoder only, 3rd # with decoder and sound.

SP - Bloody nose scarlet and gray - 3 road numbers total. 2 with DCC decoder only, 3rd # with decoder and sound.

UP- Armour Yellow, with small UP Shield - 3 road numbers total. 2 with DCC decoder only, 3rd # with decoder and sound.

No prices have been announced. Also no mention if the Decoder is designed like the Atlas decoder with a DCC/Analog jumper. Also no ship dates as of yet. Please no arguments over:

"I do not want to pay for a decoder blah blah blah"

Roco has an excellent rep for doing quality work. I fully expect that these units will be of excellent quality. The price with sound should be very interesting. I am not sure I want to pre-order sound without hearing it first! or seeing one too [IMG]

PS - I will probably order all the CSX units. My trust in Roco is pretty high. I will wait for pricing for sure to make an order.

    ================

Very interesting -- in the past Atlas has imported
HO diesels from Roco as well as Life-Like bringing
in the HO USRA 2-8-8-2 from Roco.

Here is the E-R Models website:

<font color="336633">I have seen a lot of European locos from Roco, and they are all VERY nice, but also VERY VERY expensive, it will e intresting to see if they bring these out cheaper than the European ones due to the larger US market.

There will be pleanty of people moaning about them only doing them with decoders/sound.

I for one am not to bothered about the sound, but then a few years ago i wasnt bothered about DCC..... how things change

Its good to see them getting into the US market, but I think there is enough locos coming out in HO (and N scale) at the moment and might we be swamping the market now? I know that I never had enough money to buy all the limited run locos that I would have liked AND buy freight cars, build my layout, fit DCC to older locos, buy food, put petrol in my car..... My guess as to the price??? well I bet it will be over £100, I will be shocked if it isnt.

    Hmm......100 pounds- that's a little over $153US-

Somehow Kato and Athearn look so much better........feels better on my wallet, anyway.

Or perhaps I need to hold off passing judgement until I see the reviews. Man o man, can you hear the hue & cry on the whine list (oops, I meant Atlas) over this one??? :D :D

PS- Thanks once again for the announcement, Don- the rolling stock I saw on the E-R site look really nice.

$153 is not out of the ball park of list price of other manufacturers, the latest P2K SD60M is list at $140 and the official writeup for the Atlas H15-16 says "MSRP Range: $139.95 to $149.95"...

My guess would be a bit higher than that, say $180. My guess is that they will also be doing lots of body variations... [IMG]

This may be so, but I doubt many will actually pay retail for thier units.

Very true, but the rrp is the only sure figure you can have for the cost of something before the stores start selling it.

Agreed. I really do hope they turn out well. If so, they would make a great starting point for a quadruple-set of CEFX units!
