I lived in Hawaii for a brief time when I was a kid (Oahu) and only vaguely remember something about a train that used to run on the Island I think for the sugar cane fields? It was long gone when we were there. I didn't know Maui had a train at all! Very cool... -Mike
We rode the LK&P at around the same time on a family trip. My wife and I, her parents, her brother and his family, great memory. It was my first time back to Hawaii after serving in the Navy there 75-77. When first exploring Oahu in 75 I found narrow gauge tracks in the sand on the leeward coast. Later found out that this had been part of a railroad that had at one time gone halfway round the island serving the sugar cane plantations and the Navy's ordnance depot. After abandonment much of it became a bike trail but now near Ewa Beach there is a tourist railroad using part of the right of way which I hope to see in a future visit to the island someday.
Just wondering. I went to high school in Hamburg, Arkansas. I’ve been to Hamburg, Ohio. I had an Army buddy that lived there.
