    Group,

I have a Z Scale MTL SD40-2 that when track power is applied, headlight works but no movement.

    Do I have a bad motor ?

    It's a Swiss MAXON 347726

Can anyone recommend a reputable Z Scale repair person ?

    Thanks,

How old is the unit. Some of the Z scales have issues with the grease turning to peanut butter consistency. I have repaired a few of mine with this issue. This happens al lot with Marklin. Is it a DCC unit or DC? Could be wrong address if DCC. That's what I can think of right off the top of my head.

Does the headlight come on on its own or via throttle command? Other outputs? If you are handy with a voltmeter, you can probe the power outputs to the engine to see if they are getting voltage when throttle is applied.

One question : does one hear the motor growling when sending juice ? Isn't a cable/spring/contact beeing loose between PCB/decoder and the locomotive's motor ?
