I'm not sure which railroad to post this under, but did any of you guys see this yet? CP might be buying Kansas City Southern: https://www.ft.com/content/9d4c383a-b3ee-415d-beaf-3cc7a6dc5993 and https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...to-buy-kansas-city-southern-for-25-billion-ft It has been approved by the Surface Transportation Board and Kansas City Southern seems on board with the buyout too. Let's see what other developments come in the next few days and months. Who knows if this is another one of those proposals that will fall through. This could either become the next UP-SP merger or the next SPSF. If KCS gets merged, this could be huge for the railroad and railfan community. Get to photographing those Southern Belle units, because they might not be around for much longer. CN has the IC, and now CP may have KCS. These Canadian railroads sure are expanding southward.
This could be ironic in a small way. The KCS Gulfport (MS) Sub is a 67 mile orphan line between Hattiesburg and Gulfport. The irony will be that KCS has trackage rights on CN/IC tracks between its yard in Jackson and the interchange in Hattiesburg. If the deal goes through, CN would be forced to "host" CP on its tracks between Jackson and Hattiesburg. Just conjecture...wonder if CN would try to get the GPT Sub back as part of the deal? The Sub was owned by IC before they sold it to Mid-South.
Looks like CN will have some new competition in its U.S. market. I hope I get to someday see a KCS unit before they're gone.
More like Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern de Mexico, and I though Burlington Northern Santa Fe was long!
Hey y'all, the Gulfport, MS engine terminal at 22nd St. extension across 25th Ave., behind Auto Zone has 5-6 Belles and a couple of Grey Ghosts on weekends. Phillip H has posted photos from there recently. BTW, we have plenty of adult entertainment at the casinos, and family entertainment at the aquarium, train museum, the beach, etc. Plus lots of great seafood restaurants. Y'all Come, Ya Heah.
That was the CP that bought the D&H. I own a few shares of CN (stemming from shares in IC I had) and they're down 2.8% this afternoon, maybe because of an expected dent in earnings with CP+KCS competition? CP is down 5.1% this afternoon, likely because of increased debt and reduced Earnings Per Share resulting from the issuance of new shares. CSX is having a good day, perhaps from CP and CN sellers looking for a place to park their cash? Hard to say anything for certain with any of today's market activity. KCS - up 25% UP - down 2.3% NS - up 0.7% CSX - up 3.1%
