Hello everyone and welcome to that gateway to the weekend. I hope you had a good week and are ready for the weekend. Let's get started.

Saturday: Well nothing really planned for today. The battery from the motorcycle has to be replaced and a dealership up in the Chicago area has triple points day as well as well as 20% off all HD parts including batteries. This means we'll go up to see Ang's dad and we'll make a day of it. It's nice but sure eats up a big chunk of the weekend.

Sunday: It's back to Hooterville for Angela's Grandma's birthday. The over an hour up and back is what really eats up the most time. Ang's Aunt is up from Florida so we will be up their most of the day Sunday. I hope to start a new project next weekend.

So how about you? What do you have planned for the weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 22nd to see how you all did. Until then, have a great weekend, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

I will continue working on the coaling tower. I rigged the front col chutes, but I am not happy with the way they came out. I am going to see if I can track down some thread thin wire to redo them. If not, I may just pull the thread and glue them in place. I do not need them to move. I need to finish the stairs and the building of the tower is done. Next will be weathering it.

Next project is either to lay some track since a couple of switches finally showed up or begin working on the Walters Two-Stall Engine House.

The replacement parts for the station canopy arrived yesterday. The weather is supposed to be excellent here this weekend, lots of sun and temps in the high 50's. I'll try to find some time to work on the station kit, it will mostly depend on how Lori feels after getting her second vaccine today. I had flu like side effects from my second shot, as have several people I've spoken with, so she's prepared to lay low tomorrow just in case. I also have a few more cars left to complete the full conversion of my fleet to MT couplers, except for the three locos that I don't have the correct conversion kit for. These are all long T shank (1130?) and I only have the 1128 and 1129 kits on hand. I tried the 1129 on one rear truck, it works but you practically have to force them together to get them to couple and lift the loco off the tracks to uncouple.

Home all weekend preping for procedure on Monday. This will give me an excuse to avoid honey do list. Not that I really need an excuse!

FRIDAY: I plan on finishing masking glue joint areas for the granary and spraying interior with rattle can primer. Cleaning up window etchings in preparation for painting.

SATURDAY: Clean up my little trainroom once again and set up spray booth.

SUNDAY: I haven't airbrushed since the move six years ago. I need to come up with fittings for compressor to airbrush connections. I disassembled and cleaned my air brushes years ago. Sunday I'll work at get them working properly and do some test spraying. Might need to do some searching around the garage and attic.

    Have a Good One!

Finally, the bowling tournament is done, so I may get to the club this weekend and also get some modeling in including painting a decaling a couple of cars.

Sunday, I have to go to Toledo, as my wife wants to visit her sister who fell last week and broke a bone in her back, no spinal damage but a lot of paint after surgery to go into and glue the bone together.

We go this morning for our 2nd vaccine so all depends on how I feel afterwards. The first one took me out for most of the Saturday after getting it on a Friday. So plans are just to work on some small scenery finishing throughout the newer part of the layout and run trains.

Hope you all enjoy the weekend whatever you are doing.

This weekend I have "office work" to do for about a half-day. Will work on this from the home office as it were. There will be modeling done.

2 things I would like to do is work on a Westerfield Kit or 2 that I've started and are sitting in workshop cabinet begging for attention. The other is to move some scenery along at the layout.

    Have a great weekend all!

Going to see the tax preparer tomorrow (my uncle who is a CPA). I know I will owe this year so may be in a bad enough mood that I do nothing. That means it's pretty much a play it by ear weekend.

Hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend!

The shop crew had some time this week to continue on last weekend's objectives. Don't worry, I will ensure they are well compensated for their overtime.

    Here is where we are:

    update 210319.JPG

You don't see the drivers, but I added conductive paint on the backsides to improve electrical performance. I also assembled the pilot. It is a modified GHQ part from the NP W-3 kit. Originally designed for a dummy coupler, mine has a MT 903/5 Z coupler in the photo. Previously installed on the frame is the fabricated pilot truck with 28" wheels. Closest to the prototype's 30" I could find. Removed the front part of both tender walkways (exposing the unsightly joint where the parts meet) and started putting on the rivets.

Going forward we don't have a fixed schedule for the weekend. There a few domestic chores to be done. Here are the modeling plans in the order I plan to tackle each:

    Finish applying the rivet decals.
Test the pilot height and compatibility. This loco needs to work the yards and sidings. Manual uncoupling is OK, but a dummy coupler won't get it done.
Once the coupler is finalized there are details (steps, handrail, cut lever) to add to the pilot.
Next up: Stanchions for the lower handrails on the tender. Put dimensions to a boiler design. (I think it will be easier to make a new boiler instead of modifying the original USRA boiler.) Attach the upper platform and ladders to the tender.

    Pictures on Monday.

    Stay safe,

We'll kinda see how the weekend goes, my time is split between model railroading and an architectural visualization project I am working on, and NASCAR -- Ive got an atlas switch machine thats not working to look at, and I'd like to get some track laid into the arrival / departure yard, that will run me out of track till I can get my tax check cashed (hopefully monday or tuesday) then I need to buy track, roadbed and turnouts

And it turns out a volcano I have been monitoring for the last couple weeks in Iceland finally decided to get its act together and is having a beautiful eruption -- so I'm spending lots of time with that as well

I feel your pain. Every year I have to pay the Peoples Republic Of Illinois some crazy amount of taxes no matter what my employer takes out. Good luck!
