eBay handle that is one letter different from a well known actual legitimate vendor (who I believe does not advertise here, so "woo woo woo") - Check.
Not N Scale, but the folks on the Steam Era Freight Cars Group are having a field day speculating about how the crates were loaded into the boxcar. Best answer so far: "It's an Athearn, so they lifted the body and roof piece, loaded the crates and then put the body back on." https://www.ebay.com/itm/HO-Athearn...r-16989-Load-Upgraded-Train-MWKD/265064550965
TRAINLAND HAS THESE ON SALE FOR $5.99. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Classic-Me...777927&hash=item4476ecae09:g:0N8AAOSwaRhgRnYr
Well, here's one I know it's not ebay , possibly worth mentioning due to the $ . Brand new, still have factory seals intact. DCC Sound. $1000 plus shipping or best offer. see photos. Tom
Believe it or not, the Turbines are not far off that number, or so I've been told. I think ScaleTrains has done a couple of runs of these. Maybe another one is indicated...
And now, it's time for the Exciting Game of "What The Woo Woo Woo?!?" In which we look at items on that Famous Internet Auction Community and wonder what sellers were thinking! Here's our first entry: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Microtrain...xas-2-Bay-ACF-Covered-Hopper-450/284204763562 And here's our second: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Microtrain...c-Overnight-Single-Door-Box-Cars/284204801892 And our third: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Microtrain...lroad-Riveted-Steel-Side-Caboose/284204851907 And finally, our big "winner"?!? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Microtrain...rks-D-RGW-40-3-Pack-Box-Car-Set/284204904819?
The first two listings don't seem too unreasonable being that the auction is for 2 cars (if I'm reading it right), especially since it seems to be quite the sellers' market lately as far as N scale goes.
The first three aren't way out in space, but I would say still a wee bit high. The last one, well...... Ouch.
Here is one for you all. Minitrix Orient Express Locomotive and 5 Car Set | eBay Starting bid: US $150.00 Item location: West Haven, Connecticut, United States Price: US $195.00 Shipping: $13.50 Ships to: United States, Canada I'll presume that the 195 is the buy it now $ it would place this set at 208.50 for any purchaser. Tom
Yes, that's the Buy It Now price of $195. eBay requires that the Buy It Now be at least 30 percent above the starting bid. That makes for some interesting "reverse mathematics" when figuring out listing... and it's why I very rarely used BIN. The price doesn't seem that far off what I remember these sets going for. It's not my area of expertise though. Probably the only way I'd get near an Orient Express though!
You're reading it right. I wasn't at first but still think that for common cars they are "What the woo woo woo" listings. #3 was really out of bed. I think it's a sellers market in some aspects, but still a buyer's market in others. Overpriced stuff is still sitting though there have been more bidding wars on other more scarce items. I am particularly surprised with the current action on centerbeam cars and some BLMA rolling stock, for example. I think the lack of train shows is driving some of the action on eBay. We'll see what happens after they resume.
Del Prado Steam Locomotive N Scale 1:160 GNR Class V 2-2-0 Ireland Kestrel Model | eBay ... Love the $ ! Does this Seller Realize it is a Static Model for Display purposes only and It does not Run. Tom
No , according to my Niece and her Husband which reside outside of LONDON England is what they call a 4-4-0 . Tom
I was thinking the same thing... must not be anything on the other side. I guess in England they use the 'Half-Whyte' locomotive classification system. Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk
FWIS, It wasn't all that long ago, 10-15 years maybe, that MTL cars were considered "collectible". There are still some sellers on Ebay that view them as "rare" and ask high prices. Oddly enough, people are still paying the high price. My limited understanding is that, similar to the Beanie Baby craze, there were unknown models of MTL cars in every dealers shipment which, before the internet, gave an air of limited and rareness. Newsletters were created and auctions started to pick up on the trend and prices went through the roof. Even as I started my "accumulation" phase, gathering items for my future railroad, I picked up some early MTL car that still commanded high prices on Ebay. In 2012-ish, I sold a 6 car runner pack that was bid up to $499 and SP Overnite cars regularly sold in the $50+ range. Provenance was an important issue and some dealers shrink-wrapped their product to show they were sealed/unused. "Factory Air" still inside. Crazy times. (I still have a bunch of factory new, shrink-wrapped "blue labes", but I paid less than $4 a car for them and they tell a story... I would guess this seller is from that "train" of thought. The silly part is that his are used and I would bet that he is going by price guides from the year 2000. If someone is willing sperate themselves from hard earned money... well there are sayings for that. i.e. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MTL-20000-...287301?hash=item4b8dd7f3c5:g:68wAAOSw4vRdSGOT
A good summary Jugtown. I subscribed to T e x ' N ' R a i l s ' newsletter in the late '80s and early '90s and was astounded at the collecting craze that enveloped N Scale rolling stock at the time. I'm not a "collector", so didn't enter the fray. I run all of my cars, not much caring about their alleged worth. I weather only cars I've painted, preferring to keep my purchased cars as they were originally. I admire weathering as done by others, but it's mostly not my thing.
