Thank you for your kind words. It's been a pleasure to share these models. I figured someone would fit a decoder under the chassis but I had no idea one would fit in the cab area. Wow, that's fine work! While I'm here, I'd like to apologize to anyone that was not able to get a set of 44 Tonner handrails before they sold out. My supplier sent me the next batch but shipping is extra slow these days. Happy Holidays, everyone.

    Hi Rudy,

Please let us know when the 44 Tonner handrails arrive back in stock. I placed an order for the Shapeways parts, and then realized you meant the handrails were STILL out of stock.
Just as well, as I'm still trying to decide on paint scheme so I can order your decals, as well.
Any reason the Pennsy number couldn't be 9331? I'd like to recreate the Strasburg version, repainted from #33.

Thanks for all your fine offerings!

    Rudy,

My 44-Tonner has shipped, so please save me a set of handrails etc. until I can get home tonight and place the order! Unfortunately, I can't complete the transaction from the office.

    Thank you for the notice!

TramFabriek, where the motors are sold, also has the DH mini decoders available later this month, and they look small enough for this project!

I think they are the smallest. 5mm x 8mm x 2.4mm is pretty small and thin!

The loco is fantastic as usual. That helium car is pretty darn cool too!

I finally finished mine. DCC'ed with ESU nano. Directional LED headlights.

It is probably a very nice loco, but the picture doesn't reveal much...

    Hello David,

Rudy is working on a GE 70 Tonner that I am very much interested in. He says it is similar to the 44 tonner with the cab in the rear. Do you think the TCS Z2 decoder would work with a rear cab? I'm concerned the decoder would restrict the trucks in one direction. But maybe there is room to raise the decoder and you left it low for wire clearance? Could the TCS Z2 be raised or did you consider other orientations that might of worked?

    Thanks

    Nathan

I don't have one yet, So I can only guess as to what decoder might fit,
Judging from the drawings on his website a ESU Lokpilot Nano or the D&H PD05A Nano might be a better fit than the TCS Z2.
I plan to order one and put a decoder in it. So once he releases them and i get one in my hands to experiment with i will let you know what decoder i think fits/works best for me.

Thanks David. I agree with your analysis. I'm looking forward to the 70 tonner for my M&ET layout so we will probably be working in parallel. I ordered the PD05A after Rudy gave me the numbers for the cab area. It's a great fit and the wires have room down the nose. The cab will have access to air for cooling too.

Worry not! There is not a single Z Scale locomotive that cannot be outfit with a decoder these days. Decoders are so small that you can fit them in the Marklin VW Railbus!
