Hi all, what screwdrivers do you all user for those tiny M?T flat head screws for body mounts and the ones for the Atlas Phillip head body mounts? The ones that came in my sub par below average jewelers screw driver sets are slightly larger than what is needed. After doing 3 loco couple upgrades today, I realize I have to find something better. Help!
Usually 00 Philips for those little dinky ones (sometimes 000), 1.2mm flat blade for the M/Ts. I bought myself a nice combo pack of Wiha screwdriver bits with handles, not just Philips and blade, but Torxx hex, stars and others. Expensive, and if you aren't doing a lot miniature work, just purchase the smaller sets of those you need, but love this one: https://smile.amazon.com/Wiha-75971...ha+screwdriver+bit+set&qid=1613855137&sr=8-41
I have owned a Wiha 26100, a Philips 00 screwdriver, and love it to the extent of being ready to replace it with an identical piece. Unfortunately I've never found a straight screwdriver that did as well. That may just be the advantage of cross-point design.
I have had this set by General for years. 100_1013-4 by John Moore posted Feb 20, 2021 at 5:29 PM Home Depot lists the set for about $16.
I second the Wiha. They make good stuff. They have cheaper sets like this one. https://www.amazon.com/Wiha-26199-S...river+set&qid=1613864034&sprefix=wiha&sr=8-14 There is an Amazon Choice Wiha set for $25 and has one less driver. But the above set has the highly desirable #000 Philips which the cheaper set doesn't have.
I use a Craftsman set #94107. Never been stumped in over 20 yrs. Another option is vodka and orange juice !!!
I bought this cheap set to put together a PC and they'd held up reasonably well https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07552XJJX/
I use an older version of this one by Husky. I keep them all around. And I'm in Z scale. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-16-in-1-Screwdriver-Set-9-Piece-751016H/204665787
Wow, this one has #0000 Philips! And only $5. Time to visit Home Depot! Edit: seems to have mixed reviews. Wiha #0000 Philips is $10 on Amazon.
I bought a mini set at Walmart for $5-10 bucks a long time ago when I needed to take apart the Nav drive in my old wagon. When stuff is tiny it is still my go to.
My tiny '+' screwdrivers would probably last longer if I would stop using them as a 'center punch'.....
That’s what I thought was meant!! Something with a high alcohol content!! Have days where that would make me feel a lot better! Wouldn’t care how much I hurt!t Have a couple sets, that work pretty good, on the MT mounting screws. One set, also has Phillips heads almost perfect for tightening the earpiece mounting screw on my glasses about every 4 days!! Don’t know names, and knees hurting bad enough right now, that I’m NOT gonna get up and look! Gonna stay in bed, with heating pad across knees, hoping it’ll help But, it won’t! Not until the cold weather starts clearing out, and pressures start going back UP. Drs say it’s all in ones head. Got news for them, no it isn’t!! It’s in the feet, knees, hips, back and other joints!!
I have a small drawer of assorted screwdrivers on my work bench. Various sources and makers. The one I seem to use the most I bought from Radio Shack, (Archer), many long years ago. It has a #0 and #1 Phillips, and those seem to get the most workout of all such I own.
My son got me a KleinTools #32717 Precision Screwdriver Set for Christmas. It has straight blades down to 1mm, Phillips tips down to 000, and lots of tamper-resistant fastener bits in a case with labels for each of the 39 bits. The shank is reversible for standard or long extension, and the rubberized handle has a swivel finger/palm rest on the butt end. The bits have longish 3.5mm hex shanks that work fine just using your fingers for lite work. Home Depot stocks it in their store nearest me (currently $30, and worth every penny!) I've used cheap sets in the past that have broken, bent and mangled tips, and a Chapman gunsmithing screwdriver set that is awesome for that stuff, but this set is the cat's meow for small hardware and electronics! -- Andy - Arlington TX
Wiha is made in Germany, I have about 30, high quality, don’t break, precision, but not cheap. As with most things, you get what you pay for.
