I saw this morning a N scale Bachmann Spectrum Conrail engine for.....$30
Are they good, decent or crap?
I don't think it's ddc ready.....are they anyway relatively easy to equip with a decoder?

It depends on which one it is. Some of then are pretty good. Some of them are mediocre. Some are JUNQUE. I do not use DCC, so I can not comment on it.

I think some of these suffered from cracked axle gears. Proceed with caution. o_O

At that price it's no doubt one of the earlier versions and one to stay away from.

Check the Spookshow site(Spookshow, net). It will give you valuable information on just about anything involving n scale locomotives and rolling stock. There are two versions of this model. My first locomotive was the first version that I purchased for $35.00. About a year later, when I purchased a couple of Katos, I converted it to a dummy to run in consists. I still have it and use it often.

Ben, j'sais pas...I just saw in the display shelf, in its jewel box. Will have to go back and ask to see it more closely. Most likely a GP- something, definitely not a F unit

Everybody needs an old B'mann loco, to make their other brand locos look & run better!
