The Dummy units were because Tyco's power packs or transformers or throttles or whatever you wanted to call them were weak and running 2 powered locos on the rails at the same time would burn them up. I know this for a fact, as I killed 3 or 4 of those gold boxes trying to do just that.

That's a fact. One of the reasons I stopped by the local gun, bicycle, sports and hobby shop to see what other transformers I could buy. That's when I learned about MRC.

    Good one.

The one thing that stood out to me... is I didn't highlight a statement that would have made it clearer.

For example I have Analog DC and DCC wired to the same layout. I should have highlighted...wired to the same layout. That would of stood out and made my point...clearer. Even I had to go back and reread it two or three times to be sure of the point I was making. It was his point, the person exercising his freedom of speech to disagree. He said it was inherently dangerous. He's right you know. Those of who have wired our layout to operate on Analog DC and DCC don't operate trains off of both... at the same time. There's to much of a chance AC will arc over to DC. You can damage electronics zap, pop, and they are gone.

On most of the points he made I had no argument with him. I did take the time to show and discuss with him what I actually said and not what others were saying.... I had said. Whether he looked at me differently after that I don't really know, or care. I just thought it was funny that BarstowRick the Hick from Barstow made such a splash. Ripples of misunderstanding. Sound familiar.:cautious:

So, I will try to make my point better and clearer in the future. Will it happen. Not likely.:censored::censored:

Oh, a switch is not a turnout.:whistle:

    Here we go again.:confused::eek::rolleyes:

I went back through my postings and realized there are some duplicate pictures here. Multiple things going on so the use of the picture was to illustrate one feature. Then I used it again to show another feature all captured on the same photo.o_O

My really good shots of the layout I've already used. Here's one or two more that give you a different perspective of the layout.:coffee::coffee:

    Rail Pic's HP 015.jpg
Above: You can see an empty coal train exiting the Coal District. If you look back in the picture you'll see a loaded coal train about to reach the summit. Empty loads in and full loads out. Works for me!;)

The Mixed Manifest in front of it is heading for the East end of the Hidden Staging Yard.
The Santa Fe Bridge is an HO bridge. When I put it in I knew it was going to be temporary.
At the time this picture was taken Greg McGinnis's Mini-City, with the look alike San Bernardino Santa Fe Train Station hadn't arrived yet. Topside note the flat cars. These are early Kadee N Scale Fat cars. I've never had flat cars run as smooth or trouble free as these do. Acquired after negotiating a trade, requisitioned and then delivered to the property, intact. They are Amazing.(y)

    One more.
    Rail Pic's HP 013.jpg
Above: Top side you can see the local at the future location of the Ashfork Train Station. Scan down and you'll see the curve I'm proudest of. The outside curve is a 24" radius curve. The trains look amazing as they move through it. Then down below, you'll see a freight heading into the hidden Staging yard at the West End.:)

At the time of these pictures, I was still fine tuning the track work and wiring. It wasn't easy then and it's going to be even harder now to get to this point once again. Sigh!!!:eek::cry:

Damn, we finally agree on something. What went wrong????:eek::sick:

Now then. You knew this was coming. The American Rails who worked for the railroads, to the best of my knowledge never called it anything other then a Switch. It wasn't until railroad enthusiasts started hiring on with the railroads, you started hearing the dreaded T word.:mad::mad:

I don't care what you call it. On my Model Railroad, they will be called Switches. Unless I'm installing the whole of the mechanism and you might hear me call it a T word. Say what?:(:(:(

Rule #2 It's your railroad, you make the rules and you set the standard. ;)

Rule #3 It's your fantasy world so make the most of it.(y)

I designed and built my control box for my T-Trak modules to handle both DC and DCC and they can do either or both tracks in any combination with the flip of a switch. I understood what you were saying perfectly, and to accomplish that task is not hard to do at all. the only thing I need to remember to do is not switch between one and the other over my double crossover when operating one as DC and the other as DCC

    Yes, sir! I do agree.(y)

Massey, I'm glad you are still hanging in here with us. I was worried you wouldn't. You know the harrumph thing.:eek:

DCC on the same layout with Analog DC. More on the subject.

I parked one of my DCC units on a ready track. Using a SPST toggle switch, I turned it off. The oop's here. It wasn't protected by a DPDT toggle switch. So when I shut it off and then switched over to Analog DC . To move another engine on a track beside it using once again a SPST toggle switch. Half of the Analog DC current, looking for a return found it through the DCC diesel. Pretty sure that's what heated it up and caused a problem with the electronics. One of the reasons I will be using nothing but DPDT's on my layout as I go through this major "Rewirus Repirus" project.

Wish I could wave a Harry Potter wand and be done with it.:whistle:;);)

:coffee::coffee::coffee: I need an energy drink to get me started today.

It's been a clean up the crap and piss morning. These cats when they oop's they really blow it out. Fired up the carpet extractor and went to work. At least it now it smells like Febreeze and Fourth Generation Quatenary cleaner. Hospital Housekeeping thing but it works.

#3106 is the number of a Steam Engine my Granddad operated while working in helper Service. Location doesn't come to me right now. In Arizona and I keep thinking Ashfork. ???

    Rail Pic's HP 046.jpg
Above: You can see we... (who is we?)... haven't spotted any Locomotives or Diesels in the roundhouse area. Mouse in my pocket? Coming at you in the picture is an ABA set of Santa Fe Cigar Band F7. Kato's, original run. Santa Fe used the designation LAC. L=Lead unit. A=the cabless unit. C=the trailing cab unit. We Toy Train Enthusiast would never learn to call them that. We like our ABA sets. Makes more sense to us.:whistle: Aiiyiiyii !! Besides, some leading Model Railroader said it's OKAY to call them that. Really!!!!!:confused::eek:

    Rail Pic's HP 043.jpg
Above: You've seen these diesels before. Just not this shot. Now your going to understand what all the BarstowRick, ripples were about at the Bakersfield Train Show. There was only one Blue Bonnet, ever painted and made up. It was an executive experiment by the new BNSF management. I liked it. Frequently called the Vomit Bonnet by some toy train enthusiast. That said. These SD types in the picture are not Blue Bonnets, they are Yellow Bonnets because the War Bonnet is Yellow...not Blue. Get it?:D;)

The control panel is linear. It is a temporary one. For how long is the problem. I'm working on it, I'm working on it. Just not so much lately.:coffee::coffee::coffee:

One more. This is at the West End of the layout. You can see the area for a future Roundhouse. This looks like a double track mainline when it's actually the part of the dog bone that comes together to create a Eastbound and Westbound track. Nice illusion. Great train meets.
    Santa Fe Days 003.jpg
Above: The outside track below is the yard lead for the Hidden Staging Yard and the inside one is the Run Around Track. Also, serves as a reversing loop.

Below: The last thumb nail is where this train layout was housed for almost 17 years.

Thanks for all the likes, comments and your taking the time to check in every so often.:)

    That's it for now.

I know one of the excuses for using the word "turnout" when referring to a switch is to differentiate between a track switch and an electrical switch but any model railroader worth his ballast knows the difference in context.

You are right they do, do that. In the world of Toy Trains and Club Layouts. Most clubs will use the T word to distinguish from the Toggle Switches. It sounds totally foreign to these ears. After growing up in a family of Rails, quite frankly it sounds Ignorant. I never once heard my family of Rails, use the T word. Wait for it, wait for it. Here comes the BarstowRick - Hick comments.:ROFLMAO::LOL:

I don't care what others say or do. I care what lingo I use and my actions operating my Model Railroad. Allow me to point out: I never had a problem saying can you give me clearance for Cab A, Toggle M-3. Throw the #4 Switch - Yes, so I can get into the yard. My dad and I mastered it. I'm sure others can.:D(y)

We will have to take a trip to the Yard Tower and see how they handled it.

:LOL:Haw haw haw. :D Yep, George and I rattle each others cage every so often. We've done that for years. Go back and you'll see a picture of the two guys that starred in Grumpy Old Men, and according to George's Honey, that's us. ;)

We upset TB Mgt., here on one occasion. We both ended up asking them to leave us alone. At least I did, saying we do this on the phone as well. Just two good old guys having fun. Nothing more nothing less. No one gets hurt.:D:cool:

Darn T. Word.:mad: Incidentally model railroaders back as early as the 30's started using the T word. In a MR publication, a well known Model Railroader, discussed the making of a Switch. He called it the T word and it stuck. He ended the article by saying most Rails on American Railroads call it a Switch. I don't think anyone read that. I doubt it will ever change.:((n)

Who said I can't grumble about it.:confused:

Enjoy the bantering and feel free to jump in. :coffee::coffee::coffee:

I have a gripe with people, these days, too about the pronunciation of certain words/names. The little town here in Minnesota where my grandparents lived and my parents grew up in is spelled "Taopi" (an American Indian word) and they and other residents of the town ALWAYS pronounced it Tee-OH-Pee and that's how I have always pronounced it.

People I run into , now, who know the town and even live there pronounce it Tah-OH-PEE or Tay-OH-Pee. I try to tell them why they should pronounce it the correct way but they insist. Like you say - ignorant.

I like your come back. Really like it.

This is true. How about San Jose? People were coming through Hollister, asking for directions to San Joosee. It's San Hosea. Cajun Pass when it's Cahon Pass. Bug a boo's for sure.

Flatlanders? Some one asked me what's the definition? You may or may not like the answer. It means someone that doesn't know how to survive in the mountains. Commonly thought of as a "Dumb Ass". You know the stubborn donkey kind. Ignorant !!

They are awful fun to watch as they negotiate the iccy streets of Big Bear Country. Better then a car demolition event.

    it is what it is.
