We like to hide in our homes, and only come out when absolutely required for supplies. So this pandemic really didn't change anything for us, we just kept on keeping on as normal. And in sequestering in our homes, we have enough projects that we have put off because of other more pressing issues that may have taken precedence over said projects. Now those projects are sitting there keeping us all sane, while the rest of the world is going mad over the various things going on. Yup. I'm a happy modeler!

I hope so. I think we'd do a better job. What? What? What did I say?

The reporters for TV, Radio, and any-other media will only report what's approved by their superiors. As you described Massey. Editorials are pretty much a thing of the past.

Question of the day. Am I actually going to get started stripping wires?

I think Rick has forgotten how to strip wires and is waiting for a good samaritan to come by and volunteer. JMO

I think the best stripper is a red hea...er...I mean one of those that operates kind of like a pliers, clamps the wire in jaws, and then the blades pull the insulation off. A simple, one move operation. I used to use one of those where I worked eons ago. I wish I had one now. Good ones aren't real cheap.

I have one of those kind of wire strippers. it also works great for stripping wire back on a small section on buss wire....to attach feeders to. (y)

Yes, I've gotten busy. Purchased a brief case looking sorter for all my wire nuts, colored electrical tape and organized it. Unless I forgot something tools are in place and I'm ready to go.

A good Samaritan...wouldn't that be nice. After all the years I built train layouts for friends, trouble shot various problems, acted as an advisory volunteered my help. It would be appreciated. The problem with that is the one neighbor that is capable of doing the job, is working full time. It isn't fair to ask him. He comes home dead tired. I use dead carefully. The mortician thing. On the other hand this is something I need to do. If for no other reason to prove to myself I can.o_O

    Good idea Doug.

I know what you mean. I don't have a heated one but learned to use a soldering iron for the same purpose. If the insulation is old and hard to remove, I kind of burn it off. The good news the insulation is coming off easily.

    Thanks George.

I have two or three wire strippers (not the girly kind) two of them given to me by an electronics engineer. The other one by an electrician with training on how to use them efficiently.;)

The key is to nip the insulation all the way around the wire and then pull the insulation off.

I appreciate all your questions, ideas and thoughts shared here. Encouragement you shared is the biggest plus at this point. I'm just not as quick as I used to be.

Before moving here to Idaho Country I finished a similar project on a Church's sound system. Doing so with the guidance and help of an electrician. He was working full time so a lot of it fell on me. We got to run those wires through the attic, into the ceiling and down inside the walls... to speakers, hard wired microphones and much more. I couldn't move here to Idaho, until it was finished. With a computer center in place, word perfect and TV's hung and tested. Surprise it all worked. Now, I was done.

I didn't...did not want to be faced with a project like this, this late in my life time here on this earth. I'm a stubborn SOB (a real c-astard, sp intended) and that will more then likely carry me through.:whistle::unsure:

On occasion with my family, I bump up against a negative attitude toward the train layout. They want me to take it down. Wait until they get to this point in their life. I would love to be here to see how they react.:eek::mad:

As to the layout: This will be the hardest part of the layout restoration project. Nothing will be easy. This is the worst part. The reward is somewhat out of sight right now. Seeing trains running again, where I can concentrate on scenery, buildings, lighting and animated goodies. That will be the fun part. That will be the reward.

Just don't give up on me yet.(y);)

The fun starts now.:ROFLMAO::D Well sort of.:coffee::coffee::coffee:

I only have two connections to redo on my layout after I ripped them apart when I was resetting it up and the worst part is going to be getting under there, even though the board is 4 feet off the floor. 4.5 years ago when I did all the wiring, it was easy but now, advancing age has caused more difficulty with getting dizzy when looking up and scrunching down and eyesight deteriorating. Bummer.

Rick and Doug, You are both doing vital work here, encouraging the construction parties! We all have pieces of track with gaps too large, power feeders missing, switch machines and switches not perfectly aligned. We all know they need fixing and some of us are reluctant to bend our heads under the layout table. Thank you for helping with your light hearted encouragement! - Tonkphilip

As bad as my knees are, I would be there any time you needed Rick... I’m not just saying that because I live so far away, I’m saying it because I enjoy a challenge, and this looks to be just that... plus I like electrical work too!

I oops'd, I blew it, I goofed up. I can hear George saying, "Rick screwed up." with a mischievous look on his face.
I said "Word Perfect" when I should have said "Power point," regarding the church's sound system. I'm so humbled...not.

tonkphillip, Oh this bending my head under the train table is just the challenge I'm facing. It's not as easy these days as it used to be. I like the challenge and that will carry me through.

Thanks for the offer. Ditto my friend, once again Ditto. You nailed it.

You'd be welcomed but if you are allergic to cat's I wouldn't recommend it. That can be a real challenge for me as well as anyone else.

Time to get breakfast, clean up after my four pawed critters and get busy on the layout.

I won't be watching the inauguration.
Who has time for such nonsense in a corrupt world and broken media.
I'll escape to my own fantasy, TRAINS !!
To work on the train layout.

I'm Good with furry purrballs. I have one that sleeps on my head every night, and another at my feet.

Anybody that's good with purrballs is good with me.

Time to get down on my knees and twist my bad back into position and see what the damage is and how much I can remedy it.

I might work on a table leg that is at the wrong angle. That's more physical work then I want to take on right about now.

I am still amazed that there are two creatures in this world specifically made to be with humans, cats and dogs (with parakeets a possible third) and I don't believe it's by accident. I love them both with a slight preference for cats. They are the funniest people on earth.

Controlled breeding of cats and dogs has produced animals that are more useful for humans, whether for emotional or physical purposes. What were once wild animals slowly evolved (accelerated by that controlled breeding) to serve our needs, be they emotional, physical or both.

But I'll take a dog over a cat any day of the week, and twice on Sundays. Besides, my wife is allergic to cats, as is my daughter, though the latter is grown and out of the house.
