The Sunset Limited about to pass by the Sugar Land SP depot while a MOW train is parked on the spur leading by the Imperial Cotton Gin. The Sunset did not stop here but for the Argonaut, it was a flag stop.

Good morning from cloudy and cold Northeast Ohio!

I managed to get some work done this week.

Red Caboose 1944 AAR Boxcar Kit, as I was modeling a rebuilt car I did not install the roofwalk, just the grab over the brakewheel side ladder, lowered the A end ladders and installed A-Line Sill steps in place of the plastic ones. Painted car with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #3 and lettered with Herald King Decals. Car was originally built in 1958 and rebuilt in 1972 to follow the current rules of removing the roofwalks etc., car was renumbered after rebuilding and was in general service on the MP.

Athearn PS 2893CF Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Scalecoat II MOW Gray and lettered with Microscale Decals. Car built in 1957 and repainted in 1971 but still keeping the current graphics. Used for moving Soda Ash which is used in many applications including glass, soap and other products.

An old shot of my Kato PC SD40 and SD45 on the Strongsville Railroad Club in Strongsville, OH with a general freight.

    Thanks for looking!

An old photo from 1983 on my N Scale road. Those are Minitrix U-Boats to the left and an Atlas RS-3 on the right, both painted by me using Northeast Decals. I used some sort of waterless press on decals for the DL&W boxcar. Track is Arnold Rapido, tower is a Dimi-Trains #2010.

Frisco still rules! Very inspirational. If I follow through with my surreptitious plan to reinstate the CB&Q railroad and you provide an adequate level of support, your road may be among the leading roads to also be resurrected. FYI

I have a run by, but I have to download the photos and video. Thus far this weekend is proving to be challenging as far as getting on the computer. If I have time I will post it hopefully tomorrow. If not next weekend.

GP40 #3684 seems to have been in a collision. That front walk handrail looks a bit battered. :)

Messing around with an old Nikon single shot. It seems to work as well as my old iPhone 6S, although it's necessary to play around with the lighting because of the timed flash. I hear the iPhone 11 has an outstanding camera. I need to upgrade one of these days but I don't want to drop big bucks on something I won't make proper use of. I also have a Canon SLR, but it is very difficult to get the focus right, which I suspect is a function of N scale being so small that it's hard to balance the subject with the background. What do you other N scalers use to get such great clear photos? DSCN1254.JPG DSCN1256.JPG DSCN1257.JPG

The Canon SLR is an excellent reliable camera, love mine. The focus problem you mention may be due to your lens not being able to stop its iris down small enough. To have in-focus shots across most of a layout, you need a lens that can stop down to f22. Now the problem becomes enough light for the film to expose a clear image. The two options are 1) add brighter lights over the layout (and blind you and your visitors), or 2) use a tripod, a slower shutter speed, and remote shutter release. Option #2 is less expensive and gives you a second hobby of creating great photos of more scenes than just your layout.

BTW, you have a great looking layout. (y)

I also have a Cannon SLR and while I love the camera just like you I too have problems using it for layout photos. When I got back into modeling and for the heck of it I tried using my Google Pixel 3a for layout photos and never looked back. I just upgraded to the Google Pixel 4a/5G and the camera is awesome. The photos I posted earlier in the thread were taken by it. When I do my run-bys I use a tripod to hold the phone. I like the phone camera because I can get into places I could not with the Cannon SLR or my old Sony point and shoot.
