Good morning, good evening, wherever you may be. Welcome to that gateway to the weekend and the start of another great year of modeling plans. Participation is up and that's a great thing. Also, don't forget the Winter Layout Party that PPUIN is conducting https://www.trainboard.com/highball...ual-international-winter-layout-party.135226/. It's the best time of year for trains!

Saturday: Well I have been working a lot on track plans for the last week. I have looked at Google Maps and Sandborn Fire Maps and have tried a few track plans on my AnyRail program. I wish I could say I was ready to lay track but I'm far from it. Once I think I have a believable track plan based on a New England Prototype, I'll commit. All of this will make building the Galesburg City Job 2.0 so much easier! This weekend will consist of planning and cleaning the upstairs.

Sunday: That cleaning is somewhat work related. I have material coming in through out the weekend to allow me to hopefully clean out a currently little used room and set up my video studio and home office. Those of you who watch Train Tuesday may appreciate the new studio almost as much as I will! I really hope to get it all finished before the next Train Tuesday on the 12th.

So how about you? What do you have planned? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 11th to see how we all did with our projects. Until then, have a great weekend, stay healthy, stay safe and as always...

    High Greens!

I am currently reworking a few small details on my tumbleweed module. Adding a little here and there. Since my weekend starts Sunday, I will get a few things done in the hotel I am in. Some of
The details are adding stuff to locos, a lighting effect, small details missed. I should have them done by next weekend then I take photos and rewrite the paperwork. And that’s it!

This weekend there will be home "maintenance" work as well as modeling time.
    1. Install 120V dedicated circuit in the attic over my garage for 2 combination security lights/cameras
    2. Work on the "Highland Paint Factory" building I started back in the fall.
    3. Advance the ground cover and (hopefully) permanently mount the buildings to the base.
    4. Time permitting, break out the airbrush and get some things off of my list that I wanted to do last weekend.

My new security power circuit is in an open attic with easy access. Plus I put a dedicated panelboard with spare breakers in the same attic space that serves my hobby workshop. So the I should not have to spend too much time in there and be able to hit the RR stuff.

    Have a great weekend all.

I've got some time in the layout room this weekend. Except for when certain playoff games are on TV (go Bills!). I'll be working on mounting control panels that I designed and printed, installing some of the fascia, and maybe even a little scenery work. That is as long as they don't deliver the new shower floor early. It's not supposed to be delivered until early next week, but I've got days of work ahead when it gets here that will keep me away from the layout for a while (again!). Seems like work around the home is never done.

Ready for the weekend! Been a long week. I have a bunch of interior doors that need new/updated hardware and it arrived yesterday so that will be number one on the list. Hopefully will make the wife smile when it's done. Hopefully I will feel like working on trains when that is done. If time permits, will be starting on the roof for the grain elevator silos and on finishing up some new display shelfs.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

    Jim:
I see you have the B&M avatar. Have you looked at the B&M valuation maps? That is where I got my "big idea" for the Albemarle Division; Albemarle City track plan (From the C&O Historical Society Archives)

Here's a link to the B&M Archive valuation maps. https://www.bmrrhs.org/maine-central-valplans

Going to be installing the bridge abutments for two bridges on my layout. After that things should get moving faster on finishing the terrain. May get to the point of starting some painting on the river and terrain. Sometime this weekend will go another round with re-upholstering the dinning room chairs.

Everyone have a great weekend whatever you are doing.

Since I brought down the bins for the Christmas decorations. We will start with the inside ones except the tree. The tree is last because of the order I have to put the bins back in the attic. Outside ones will get done when I feel like dealing with the cold.

Saturday my wife and I have an appointment at the appliance store. Our refrigerator is not making ice. We can still get water through the door, but the ice tray will not fill up with water. It maybe time to think about a new one. Tried to get ahold of repairman but they are all busy and want $100 to $200 to walk in the door. Some of them want that money in advance. I have never been happy with the current fridge. We have had problems with the drawer staying in place and the door shelves/bins cracking. We got it in a rush about 10 years ago because its predecessor died the day before Thanksgiving.

On the trainside of things I have
    • Five Proto 1000 100-ton coal hoppers to weather
    • Two Atlas Trainman covered grain hoppers to weather
    • One Athearn RTR Heavy duty flat car to weather
    • Four Intermountain covered grain hoppers to prep for weathering

I have a set of shop lights that arrived yesterday that I need to install for the layout.

I need to take a look at that Layout Party.

I plan to finish closing up the garage walls and narrow down the trackplan. I have quite a pile of ruble to break up from the garage improvement project. I still need to come up with a ceiling treatment and implement before I start building a new layout in the garage. I think I am well on my way to reducing dust and heat gain in the summer. It may still be hot in the garage but I hope it is more tolerable.

The good stuff just keeps coming. (Yes Warbonnet fans will not be happy.) B&M, a storied old road. Household projects taking precedence. Such is a model railroaders life. I hope the veg garden is organic. As for me, Still working on caboose parts. Planning assembly and such. I also have four boxcars in the shop for upgrading. Also tweaked my blog earlier. It seems to have a life of its own. The model railroad that. :D

I hope you have good luck in finding a new one that meets your needs. There has been quite a shortage going on with refrigerators and other major appliances. In 2020 we had to replace 2 refrigerators and 1 dish washer and each time had a wait of several weeks.

My layout room is in about half of a detached garage. What I did was to frame a ceiling and put up regular 5/8" drywall after installing insulation. I also installed a roof exhaust vent and several intake vents around the perimeter just like in a house. It's not perfect but it helps.

I did that but I didn't insulate in 2004. The results controlled dust on the layout quite well even with the garage door being open often. The heat was still quite intense and once I started to modify the layout I realized I may as well improve the entire space. That was 2014 and I have been grumpy ever since.

Got a few things done with figures and cars. The gondola I am going to add some more chalk to the interior to cover the soldiers feet a bit. Had to repaint the bases them glued them in. Otherwise the passenger cars worked out. Original interior plan flopped. The seats didn’t fit but even by adding figures it looks good.

Sanding spackle, reconnecting the loop, and testing track geometry. If this round of spackling doesn't do it, find another way to get the roadbed to the bottom of the track.

Run more trains, test the new yard.

Got the last Christmas decorations put away today. For the weekend, I am hoping the cabinets promised by Saturday afternoon actually arrive. The plan is to build a new, larger, more stable workbench. If it works out there will also be more and, importantly, more accessible storage. Saturday will be spent doing general chores and preparing the space. A little NFL action, too. If everything goes as planned, Sunday will be spent assembling cabinets.

I will let you know Monday.

    Stay safe
