Thanks! It was early summer, IIRC, and I was coming home from my son's taekwondo practice. I sometimes take this route to check the CP yard at the bottom of the hill. Several times it has paid off.
Nice! A Dash 8 widecab! A pair of zero-day shots from this morning, both from the same overpass... Looking west at JD Switch, west of Gavin Yard from the 55th St overpass. A grain empty eastbound waits to enter the yard: Sunrise over the Gavin Yard tower:
You do realize that those cabs are no wider than the old style, they just have a wider nose. WIDENOSE somehow just does not sound good though.
A crushed limestone unit train is pulling off the BNSF Galveston Sub and onto the UP Sunset Route to head into Houston. The limestone will be used for making concrete. Rosenberg, Texas, March 2014.
And about a year later on the other side of the bridge I caught a lease loco leading a train on the BNSF about to cross the Sunset Route. The switch for the interchange that the train in the post above is on can be seen in the foreground.
An eastbound Portland-Chicago Z drifts down into the depths of Gassman Coulee after sunset. Photo from private property with permission:
Weather was dreary Saturday morning 01/16/21 but I did catch one northbound on the CSX at Emerson GA. First BNSF railfan shot of 2021.
With Gavin Yard tower scheduled for replacement by a modern office building, get your shots now. So I did.
