Happy Christmas Eve everyone! I hope you all are in the Christmas spirit. Come on in, I have the tree up in the station, Bing is crooning out White Christmas on the old RCA and there is hot coco, coffee and tea on the pot belly stove. It's Christmas in the old country depot! Despite 2020 being the year that it has been, I hope you all celebrate the holiday in your own special way and hey, 2020 will be gone in a little over a week! Let's all hope 2021 is a much better year. Now, onto the festivities!

Thursday: I have a half day today and looking forward to cooking and wrapping latter.

CHRISTMAS: Not a lot planned actually, with everything going on in the world. We plan to have a small Christmas with just our two kids and our granddaughter. Small snacks and a short gift exchange will take place but we are keeping it low key this year. Once the "large" gift exchange is over, it will just be Ang and I enjoying our own gift exchange with some real egg nog and probably just cheese and crackers. Maybe watch the Polar Express too.

Saturday: Angela has to work so I will be left to my own devices. I'll probably finish up her Dad's RC Cobra project and see when we will see him for Christmas. I keep hoping for some time to work on the HO scale layout but the time never seams to work out this time of year.

Sunday: Not sure, but probably cleaning and trying to get organized for the upcoming year. A few of us here are roughly putting together a FreeMo N group and I may work on that as we want to start building modules. Domestic duties will no doubt need to be accomplished as well.

So how about you? What do you have planned for the long Holiday Weekend? Let us know, and while you're at it, let's see a pic or two of those Christmas Trains, whether set up around the tree, desk or layout, let us see them! We'll assemble again on the last Monday of the year, the 28th to see how we all did this festive weekend. Until then, have a happy weekend, be safe, stay healthy and of course...

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

    &

    HIGH GREENS!

I'm effectively off work until the new year... So, I'll be working on my layout a bit. The main goal will be finish the helix out of staging so I can determine the alignment for the entry/exit tracks to the main deck.

More to be posted in a few days.

My wife and I will celebrate Christmas quietly at home by ourselves. No family close by but may do some Zoom or iphone face time calls with family and friends. When our Ntrak group did a Zoom meeting last week it was funny to see some had not had a hair cut for a year and a few had given up shaving as well.

My hobby time this weekend will be focused on starting the two pairs of bridge abutments needed for the Palisade Ranch expansion of my layout as well as to continue work on building the terrain in that area. This is the project I have been posting about on the annual Layout Party thread.

We have material on order to reupholster our 6 dining room chairs. That of course will cut into any hobby time when the material arrives.

Everyone try to protect yourself and enjoy the holiday.

We rented (9 of us) a trolley for a 2 hour tour of Christmas lights around the city of Boise last night, then went out for a late dinner afterwards. Today and tomorrow there will be waves of kids and grandkids coming over to exchange presents and enjoy Christmas lunches and dinners. Tonight I have a date taking a lady friend out to see more Christmas Lights around the city of Meridian. And Saturday, the day after Christmas it is expected to snow. I don't think I will get any hobby time in, but I do hope to find some train stuff under the tree! :D

HO HO HO Merry Christmas everyone!

I won’t be getting much done before Sunday. Christmas festivities will commence today. I have to work to Nevada tonight and won’t be home until Sunday morning.

I have to change my focus from the five modules I’ve been working on to my old west module once again. NMRA wants to make a visit next month for some evals. I need to do a couple things. Add a lighting effect, add a figure carrying a lantern, and take some new photos. I should have that done here in the next two two weeks then I can return to the scenery on the current projects.

We will be at youngest daughter's home Christmas A.M. and at other daughter's home in afternoon. Hope to see all the grandkids. Saw son and family this past Sunday. My best to all, GMORider

Well, gonna be a confused kinda weekend I think --

Wound up in the ER with heart symptoms yesterday, and spent most of the rest of the day sleeping. Today my brother and sister-in-law are coming up for fellowship, presents and dinner (I live with my parents, he lives about 3 hours south in the middle of nowhere)

Christmas I think will just be mom and dad and I, and we'll be relaxing a lot -- B/C of the heart problems, I doubt I'll be able to get much work done on the layout, but I am also working on getting all the shipping data figured out for the layout, so I can start putting stuff in EMRI and generating car cards and waybills-- thats stuff I can do at the computer

Saturday, I need to get a COVID test prepatory to having a heart cath on monday, otherwise, probably more of the same -- If I have spurts of energy, I want to work on getting roadbed and track down -- I'm trying to get the primary loop finished so that I can at least run a few trains and railfan a bit -- I have a couple of the sidings that will be in also, so I might be able to do a little bit of operations -- ive never done or seen an operating session, so I'm having to learn (and im a bit intimidated)

Sunday will be church via Internet, and football and relaxation (probably more computer work too)

Monday is the heart cath, so I REALLY dont know what it and the next few days will hold -- im expecting at least one stent -- so I might be in the hospital for a couple days -- Im blessed I'll be at the cleveland Clinic main campus heart center -- ranked number 1 or 2 in the WORLD and they are superb -- so its all good

Hope you all have a BLESSED and MOST MERRY Christmas and a happy new year

    TIM

My hobby related plans are to thin out the unused items in the garage and remove all the overhead storage. I also have to come up with a proper insulation solution. My goal is to have the space ready for fresh wall board and ceiling treatment in January.

I have been without a layout for to long, 2014. Modules just don't cut it for me.

Sort of a 4 day weekend but as always, one never knows when there my be a work problem that will require time. No big Christmas plans here, staying home and it will just be my son, the wife, and I for Christmas. If I can get the free time, I will do what I can on a grain elevator I am working on. Been feeling really run down for a while now so maybe I'll just turn on some old movies and spend a lot of time snoozing in the recliner.

My wish is that you all have a very Merry Christmas!!!!! Be safe, have fun, and celebrate any way you can.

Some general additions and improvements to the layout.

I've started adding some scruffy static grass to a vacant lot - so it doesn't look like a manicured lawn between the engine shed and big industry... Later I'll add bushes and shrubbery and then some trees that are in the process of assembly.

I've already planted a lamppost in town.

And, of course, a Christmas ritual of running my original Baldwin Sharknose from Christmas 1973, along with the reconstituted train. I hunted for the same freight cars at train shows over the last several years, and managed to find all of them.

Nice to see that old beast running with its original train. Happy memories!

    Merry Christmas to all!

Today was spent cleaning up the garage a bit and testing the outlets to make sure the circuits can support a couple heaters. My mother-in-law's sister(s) may be dropping by for some physically distanced time. All have various ailments, the oldest is 87, and none want to share anything more than a few minutes together. Had to make a run for a dozen eggs in the morning. Had a short walk in the afternoon and then made Christmas Eve chowder. Cooked enough for the three of us plus my son and his roommates. They are staying in their apartment for the holiday so our contribution is food.

Tomorrow starts with a video visit with my daughter, her boyfriend, the fish, rabbit and beagle. My son is due to drop by for his presents sometime in the morning. Later we will be prepping dinner, again sharing with the apartment dwellers. His roommates couldn't be with their families because of the pandemic. If we can't have them over for dinner, we figured we could send dinner there. Plus a few cookies and a tray of cinnamon rolls. Might be a few train related goodies under the Christmas tree this year. Does unwrapping count as a Monday accomplishment?

Saturday will be about cleaning up. More in-laws are expected in the Bistro Garage. Might be some train time available, but no plan.

Sunday we have a soccer game to watch while munching on bacon and eggs. Then we take Sharon's mom back to her house and spend a week there.

I am looking forward to sharing some Christmas cheer as best as we can. Here's hoping you have a Merry Christmas!

    Stay safe

P.S. Brad: Haven't cut my hair since February. Hasn't been this long since the 70's.
P.P.S Tim: Hope everything goes well at the clinic on Monday.

    Merry Christmas to all!

We are celebrating by ourselves this Christmas but we are doing Portal calls with the kids in Colorado and California later today. Spoke with our kids in town yesterday as they are busy with the other side of the family.

Since I got off work early on Wednesday, I managed to paint some cars that I will be decaling this weekend along with building some other cars, if I can decide on which ones I want to do.

Merry Christmas everyone! My son and I measured the distance for the machine shop and power plant to raise them to Unitrack height. I'll try to hook up the turntable and get it to run.

Reconfigure the yard. I need run-around tracks... Been figuring out yard ops, and I have a few logistical problems. Lots of storage, nowhere to assemble trains.

Otherwise, I'm going to run trains.

Not sure what this weekend will bring. Perhaps a few returns and/or exchanges to the stores of some Christmas gifts that did not fit. A trip to the grocery store and possible the pet supply store may be in the cards.

I have three cabooses on the workbench ready to be weathered, an Atlas Trainman Western Maryland (circus scheme), Atlas Chessie, and an Athearn RTR Chessie (green safety scheme). The next cars I plan to weather are a six pack of Athearn RTR 2-Bay Offset Hoppers in Lehigh & New England Billboard scheme. I could begin prepping them. Due to one of my Christmas gifts, I now have more motivation to redo the layout and remove the 18” curves and replace them with 22” and/or 24”. I need to continue the demolition to begin the process.
