Hello fellow G scale enthusiasts! Well, it has been years since I have been on this forum....not sure but at least 10, maybe longer. I had been here under the user name dmiller, and had posted about my wife's and my outdoor project, the G&G garden railroad. (sadly,, I could not get the old user name to work right, and could not reset due to an out of date email address. Thus the new user status) Well.....as you know, life happens........a move to downsize to different home, (and new outdoor layout) grand kids....retirement.....and then a complete relocation for retirement. Sadly, that outdoor layout, which we had put so much time into....was a casualty of the move. Luckily, the track and rolling stock survived the move, and it is only a matter of time before I figure out what the "new" third generation G&G garden railroad will look like. I will need some more time, bourbon, and a cigar or two while I sit and think about that one! In the meantime, the Christmas layout I built before this move made the trek as well. To that end, Please enjoy the Christmas video card at the link below. It is a u-tube video, runs about 5 minutes. The layout sits in our basement, and was originally built to possibly travel to shows or displays. That never happened ......so it has become more or less stationary and a cheery solace during these pandemic months. Gentlemen, Thanks for the kind words. As I mentioned, I had intended for this to be able to be portable and taken to shows or Christmas displays. While it still is "technically" portable, after moving it I found that it would be quite the task......and would probably take the better part of a day to take down, and then another to set up. So........there she sits! Plus, when I actually sat and thought about the logistics of having this sit out in public.....with little (and big) hands around, I became a bit hesitant to put all of the characters out there in jeopardy. I know that sounds a bit cynical, but it took me a LONG time to find some of the various characters from the old children's shows......and I doubt I could replace them. The Frosty the Snowman ones were particularly difficult and rare, as were the Grinch figures. I would hate to loose them to sticky fingers. A sad reality from a pessimistic heart. Anyone got a 3 D scanner and 3D printer??? lol Hopefully as the pandemic eases I can find a place to take the Christmas trains to run on a clubs layout. the trains themselves are not as hard to travel with. I do have a daughter and Grandson in Kansas City, and may see about volunteering at the Union Station train layouts. Might be fun, and maybe a chance to run them there. I also have a fun Halloween train that I did run in the botanical garden back in Moline Illinois before we moved for their Trick or treat nights. That seems so long ago now...... :-( Until then................I will hopefully get some inspiration for the next backyard garden layout. D
